Hey all. I could really use some help trying to mix a recording I'm working on with Cubase LE4. I have been using EQ and Compressors from this VST package that I have and they are eating up all of my CPU so I can't even listen to all of my tracks at the same time, unless I want a doom metal remix of my album. Isn't there a way to "freeze" a track so it processes the VST so it is no longer needed to run and creates a new track in place of the original track? I don't know if "freezing" is the correct term, or maybe its "bouncing" I dont know. I want to process the track and have it replace itself and the effect of the VSTs to be permanent so I don't have to run the track through the VST. I hope that makes sense.

Also, if I select all of the audio clips in a track and go to the Audio menu, "Freeze Edits" is greyed out. Under Audio -> Realtime Processing Freeze Time Stretch and Transpose is greyed out.

I tested what Bounce Selection does and it does not put the VST processing permanently on the track.

Would really appreciate anyones help, thanks!

I'm gonna say 'no', but I don't know for 100% certain. What you can do to alleviate the situation, other than run your EQ and compressor as live effects, is bump up your physical RAM, shut off indexing services (assuming you run XP), and bump up the virtual RAM. That might make it 'better', but still think about running a compressor before the interface, as well as EQ. Plug ins should be kept to a minimum until you have that killer PC.

In LE your going to have to export your effected tracks as a stereo mix then import them back. LE has no freeze function. I believe Le has the export to pool option so you don't have to actually import your wav file. Don't save over cpr files so you can retrieve original recording in case you change your mind on effects later.

Is your buffer set to it's highest size?
