Hi there, I was interested (as you might have seen in other areas of the forum) in the Presonus Firepod which comes with Cubase LE. Now, I look for info on Cubase LE and Steinberg's site doesn't have anything, they do have a Cubase entey level. So, my question is; can you at least record 8 simutaneous tracks with LE, and use effect plugins? For now that would be perfect, but I'd probably upgrade at a later time to the higherarchy version of Cubase. Right now I'm downloading a demo to mess with to see if I like, please provide any information if you can.

if you want a powerfull alternative that removes the track limitations and records 48 tracks. search under my name or look at the arch_jedi thread on this bbs.

No need to look to other software....Since you're in the Cubase forum, I'll elaborate on Cubase LE for you:

48 tracks, VST plugin support, built-in plugins, full Midi capabilities and more. A good program for you to start with and future upgrading to higher versions of Cubase will give you expanded power and capabilities. So to answer your question, LE should be fine for your current needs. Might want to even check with Presonus about Cubase upgrade offers. I remember that Aardvark used to bundle Cubase LE and offered customers special pricing on upgrading to higher versions of Cubase.

I use Cubase SX 2 and love the program. There is a lot to it, but once you get a good feel for it, creating music is dare I say, fun!

Presonus and Cubase LE

Shawn -- I have the Firepod and use Cubase LE. It works just fine and (for me) it is chock full of features. Direct X plug-ins, VST, 48 tracks -- and it all works very well with the Firepod. I will upgrade to higher versions of Cubase later, but for now, I've got all I need.

In answer to your first question, I was told by Presonus that LE is the same as SE, just packaged and licensed with hardware (the firepod, aark 24, q10). Any info on SE should be true for the LE version.

Hope that helps!

Cool! So, as far as locked options and stuff...it isn't true...I mean I don't need video sequencing or anything like that...just maximum of recording 8 simultaneous tracks...with maybe-maybe not a MIDI keyboard at the same time. I'm in the live stuff. It's just...me. VST plugins?

I am also considering the Firepod.
What are people using for Mastering when using the Firepod with
Cubase LE. Any options less than Wavelabs for $599?
Thanks Mike

Cubase Realtime Plugins?

Say im tracking Guitar and i want to apply effects to the track but as i record them is there a way to hear the changes real time? so that i dont have to render the whole track out just to findout i dont like the effect?

You can buy wavelab, but I would suggest just do your mastering in Cubase. Mix it down to two tracks and then can then do pretty much everything in there. I would, however, invest in some good VST plug-ins for mastering. Something with eq, compression and reverb. I like the Waves plugs - I would invest in one of their bundles before buying wavelab (you can still use the plugs later in Wavelab). Or you can check out some legally free VST plug-ins at www.kvr-vst.com. Some are good, some are bad, some are ugly!

Yeah I'm having he same type problem. maybe it can't apply the effects in real time? Anyone know about this?

You don't need to render the track - it will apply the FX in real time when you just replay it. So you can record it dry and then mess about with them until you get what you like.

If im not mistaken SE has 5 insert effects per track and LE just has 2 ... i think SE is a step up from LE

I think it goes LE (learner edition) ..SE (starters edition) SL (fook knows) SX (fook knows) Nuendo (fook knows)

VST's...
There are tons of 'high quality' software plugins available for almost anything. I really like the organ sounds for a MIDI keyboard more than anything else...but what is the standards for VSTs?...if the plugin says it's VST compatible or a VST, does that mean it's going to work with all VST supported software?

With Cubase SL, is there a way to incorperate two LCD screens like I've seen done (at least) on ProTools software? I would imagine so...but just wondering what the ProTools hype is about.
Also; what types of files can you render your tracks to? Other than the programs files to be able to edit, what can you 'finalize' your tracks as? WAV and MP3 would be pretty good to have...I couldn't find much information searching Steinberg's site...which is why I ask you all.

Yes, I understand that. I am trying to apply the effects on the track that I am recording, not one that I have previously recorded on.

Another problem I am having with LE is that when I click on the tempo of the click track, it does not let me change the tempo from 120bmp. I've higlighted it, typed it in, pressed up (which causes it to go to 121 then right back down to 120) really really annoying!

Anyone with similar problems?

Does the plugins and effects that you might use go through the monitor/headphone mix on the FirePod on playback? Just thought of that...might be a useful feature. I would think so anyways.

I can't get the waves plugins to show up in my version of LE. I've checked the "preload waves plugins at startup" box, but..nothing, All my other apps recognise them. Any suggestions?

re: dual monitors. get a dual monitor video card. i use a radeon card with sx2. life is much easier with 2 monitors. i wont comment on pro tools.

Change the tempo in the tempo track.
Or change Tempo to "Fixed" on the transport.
Then you should be able to change it.
