Cubase LE mic problems

Hey there, (let me start with the fact that i'm not the most inclined when it comes to computers).

i've used Cubease LE for a little while now, i use a presonus Inspire 1394 firewire hardware.

i've just started using it on my Laptop, and now i've found a problem with it.

My Cubase LE isn't reading the mic's signals.

i know everything is hooked up properly because i've been using it on my PC for a while now-and when i go into my Inspire 1394 contol pannel i can see that the mic is picking up everything. The problem is that Cubase isn't picking everything up.

any comments would be teriffic.
 
I'm using the same interface and the same software. The first thing that comes to mind is that the soundcard built into the laptop has to be disabled, and the Inspire has to be enabled. This is in the Device Manager. You can switch back-and-forth, from one to the other, but only one can be enabled at any time. To get there... in XP

Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Computer Management
Device Manager
Sound, video and game controllers

Disable (right-click) the sound device that isn't the Inspire
Enable (right-click) the Inspire device

Then, there's the setup within the Cubase LE

On the top-line menu...
Devices
Device Setup
VST Multitrack
Setup tab
To the right, the section labled ASIO Driver

Select the Inspire 1394 ASIO Driver
 
Here's another (weird) thing. With my laptop (HP) when I disconnect the Inspire from the laptop, the Inspire totally disappears from the Device Manager. And, even tough the Inspire no longer appears, the laptop's internal sound card does not become enabled automatically. The first time I turn on the laptop, after disconnecting the Inspire, I need to go into Device Manager and enable the laptop's sound card. Then, later, when I want to use the Inspire again, I have to start the laptop with the Inspire connected. Then go back into Device Manager, disable the laptop's sound card and enable the Inspire. Then, I check the setup in Cubase again. It's a bother, but it's not difficult, and I've gotten used to doing it. I hope that you don't need to do this every time, but you might want to be prepared, just in case.

BTW, what is your opinion, so far, of the Inspire? I'm quite happy with mine.
 
i really like it myself, does a good job.

only wish is that it had more inputs for mics, but other than that it's great.
