hey every1

im very new at home recording, and i recently bought a top-of-the-line soundblaster external sound card so i could plug my electric and acoustic-electric guitars straight from my amp to my pc. the sound card also came with both cubase vst 4, and fl studio 4. i have been able to record guitar via cubase and have been able to burn songs to a cd, but my problem is with getting drums into my mixes. after glancing over a few forums, i have seen that fl studio is a good place to create drum tracks. im just so recording illiterate that im not quite sure where to start, and im just getting by using the tutorial in cubase. any help/redirection to online tutorials for either program would b greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi Ebster...
Yeah, FL is awesome for creating drum tracks as well as anything else.
Basically, after creating your drum patterns in Fruityloops, simply export each channel as a .wav file, which you then import individually into Cubase. Then add your other instruments. You may also sequence an entire song in FL b/4 exporting the parts as .wav. In FL, simply click on 'file', then export, then choose the format. If you want separate the drum parts, you've got to solo each channel as you're exporting it. This way, you'll be able to place each drum part on its own track in Cubase, thus allowing you to mix as you wish.
But as I said earlier, you can also add bass, synths (strings, etc) parts in FL by way of samples (there are plenty of sites where you can get good quality samples, including eBay.)
You will have fun with FL once you really dig into it. And cubase, too.

Hey

I use Cubasis VST 3.0 and FL Studio 4 to do my recordings. What I do is create a drum track at the right tempo - just for recording purposes, then create the actual drum track. I mix the whole drum track in FL Studio - pans, levels, EQs, etc... Then I export the whole thing to wav. and import it to Cubasis. It works perfectly.

Sometimes I add in bass guitar, strings, and some special effects from FL Studio if I need them, and either put them in as a separate track each, or put them through with the drum track.

Hope this helps.

thank guys... that helps a ton. already got my drum tracks exported
:D
