Cubase and Asio4All problems (no sound)

Hi ;)

I recently bought a digital piano with a midi calbe to plug into my computer; I tried to use it with Cubase 5 and it works, but there is some lag and it's not playable, so I downloaded the latest Asio driver I found (ASIO4ALL 2.11 Beta1)... when I first installed I didn't have any problem, it worked perfectly without lag. The next day didn't work at all, I couldn't hear anything at all from Cubase (but the notes I played were save, so it's not a midi problem).

I looked at the Asio control panel and saw that my speakers were unavailable because they were already in use... I tried turning off every application that may use any sound and it worked, I could hear the sound in Cubase... except that I couldn't hear anything else from Windows when I reopened some applications...

Is there a way to hear both sounds?

Thanks in advance!

The cure is to buy a real ($40 and up) asio soundcard.

asio4all is a nice hack to simulate asio, but you're still mucking around with a 40-cent onboard soundcard.

If you're going to make the investment in Cubase and a digital keyboard, do it right...

Oh ok, so it's a soundcard problem... had I knew it I would have bought one with the piano and everything... thanks man ;)

You know, I've never quite figured out how to make cubase and some other program have sound at one time. If i have itunes open for instance, and then I open cubase, no sound from cubase. The same goes if i open itunes after, only sound from cubase. Kinda lame but i make do.

It should be possible in Windows 7. It works for me.

In any case, the way around this is to go into Device Setup and tick the check box that says "Release audio driver when program is in the background", or something similar.

Now, when you minimize Cubase to the taskbar, you'll be able to hear sounds from other applications. You should be able to, anyway.

Cheers :)

I don't know why I didn't thought of trying that, I even read that option once! Thanks, it works! :D
