I just ordered Cubase 7 and want to do some recording with string/symphony orchestra type sounds. I can't seem to find any info on just what sounds come with Cubase and halion. I found that Cubase 6 came with symphonic orchestra, was that only 6 or does it still have symphonic sounds? If it does, are they any good? I really love to sound of the EWQL symphony orchestra and may get it but that really depends on what Cubase comes with and if it sounds decent.

Thanks!

More than 100 views and no replies?! None of you guys out there that have Cubase 7 can give a yes or no answer?

It should come with a symphonic library but you have to pay extra for it. Either 100-200 I believe. Halion sounds are pretty bad in terms of great synth sounds. It comes in handy sometimes for small parts and (it doesn't use much CPU for a vst ), but there are much better sounding orchestral programs out there. Native Instruments is one. You can check out Virtual Instruments: Orchestra | Sweetwater.com but the good ones get very pricey.

I hate to say this but if you are interested in quality syphonic sounds, no DAW on the market is going to come stock with anything of value.

It stinks to say but quality syphonic libraries don't come cheap either (they are usually massive 40-80+gig libraries so it's kind of understandable).

You can demo Halion Syphonic library for 30 days if I remember right and then you have the option of unlocking it for $100, but the $100 version is limited to 16bit 44.1k audio IIRC. The full version is $600 if I remember right, and that seems to be the norm for syphonic libraries since they are so huge (content wise).

I got them with mine - BUT discovered 3 months later it was a demo, and they stopped working. Halion SE doesn't have that realistic orchestral content. I use the Garritan product and quite like it, although some sounds are a bit 'loopy'.

Thanks for the information guys! It looks like I'll be getting EWQLSO regardless of how bad the "PLAY" program sucks. Thanks again.

Actually, I never had any issues with the play program FYI. I'm not sure why people complain about it so much. There was some sort of freebee they gave out a couple years ago, really limited but it sounded good.
