Wondering if anyone has encountered this before..
I have a PC that, for more than 2 years, has been more than capable of running CUBASE 6 ELEMENTS with well over 25 tracks running, midi, vst, audio, with no problem.

Suddenly for the past few months Cubase has began crashing for no apparent reason. A few things happen:

1. Loud cracks / pops begin to happen; this is when i know i've hit the point of no return
2. Cubase freezes in audio, but i can still look through the song, or even place the start bar whereever I want, but i can't play anything
3. If i try to shut off cubase and restart, it still won't work. It starts up with funky colours, almost inverted
4. Other programs like google chrome don't work either, "Whoa, Chrome Crashed" message happens whenever you try to start chrome.

This is really starting to bother me and I would REALLY APPRECIATE any help available. Thank you very much

Cubase issue could be something as simple as installation of a poorly written VST. Download anything new around the time things went to crap? If you have issues with other programs as well, it sounds to me like a virus.

Clean your PC man, and be careful what you download. Use a virus protection program at the very least, when trying out new stuff.

This is one of those reasons why my recording computer is a separate PC than the one I use for internet. If I obtained a virus on my recording computer and had to reinstall all of the OS and software I own, I would be down for at least 20 hours reinstalling. No bueno...

Hello,

If other software is showing the same behaviour it could be a problem with your graphics card.
Download and install the latest drivers for it and see it it fixes the problem.

Best regards,
GN

I have had (free) plugins totally fuck up cubase in the past.

I have had (free) plugins totally fuck up cubase in the past.

I will +100 that. Even a plug that Mofacta recommended recently, that I loved for one project, completely crashed Cubase every other time I tried to open. It worked on earlier versions obviously for him, but software moves forward. The free plugs tend to not so much...

There is a reason good plugs come with a price. If something is worth using, it is worth paying for.

Except I get this bug no matter what and here is how to replicate it and this plugin cost some money:

1. Put Steven Slate Trigger on multiple tracks.

2. Set midi preferences inside trigger.

3. Play song all the way through.

4. Drag and drop the created midi triggers to a midi track.

5. Take trigger off of the tracks.

6. The last track you take trigger off of will cause cubase to crash. It consistently always does this for me.

The remedy for me has been to save right before I remove the last instance as I know that it will definitely crash every time. Re open cubase and remove the last instance and keep working.

Really annoying though I have to say. No idea if it's a cubase or trigger issue. Using trigger v 1.66 and cubase 7.5.0 on OSX 10.7.5
