hi folks,
recently im having difficult times with my cubase 5 and couldnt find a solution :/ after i formated my computer i install cubase 5 and vsts that im using which are trilian bass vst and addictive drums. then i opened one of my old project and when i press play i start hearing lots of crackling. i check vst performance and its because of vst's that im using.
Now addition to AD and trillian i used lots of other vsts like compressor, eq, delay ets which are included in cubase. when i discard trilian and AD crackling still continues so i assume that its not because of these 2. So i start to turning off others vst which are i used for mixing and it worked but i still need copule of channels to add my mixing :/ so i opened device panel and lower the setting to Default bit depth 16 bit and default buffer size 4096. but ofc this time latency increased tremendously :( Now im curious that when i recorded this project first time and mixed it with exactly same vsts there was no crackling at all. Why do u think?

My sounnd card: Line 6 POD UX1
4gb ram, 3,2 ghz cpu
5 channel (1 drums 1 basses and 3 guitar)

thanks

You don't have a Cubase problem, you have a computer problem. You will see this in other posts (See Digital Recording and Computers). You have just too many VSTs running at once. General way to correct this, commit the sound to another track with the VST(s) being recorded. Turn off the VST (keep the original track in case you want to change it), disable the entire track. Continue to keep the final mix VSTs for further song mixing.

There should be some Cubase folks to give you finer points, but in general, that is what you will need to do. As you have found, increasing the buffer helps, but hurts with latency. Check out the DR&C thread for more information. (You might want to increase your RAM if you can afford it)

Just sounds like you are taxing your system. Freeze your VSTi tracks or export them as audio files and use them while tracking with a lower buffer size. When mixing and latency is not an issue, max your buffer and see if you can get away with all the vst's running. If not, you are just going to have to start printing your FX and sims.

A number of things can cause your system to bog down. Get rid of any software or programs you don't need. Defrag. Stay away from internet. :)

wow thank you very much guys that was faster than i expected :) im gonna try that options right away

When it comes to modern VSTs like Trilian, I recommend one CPU core per VST, meaning if you have a Quad core you can run 4 VSTs (Live, without freezing or printing) and 24 tracks of audio and full mixing plugins. An Octo core could run 8 VSTs and full 24track mix.

So if your using a single core you can still run 1 VST and print more as you go. You might be able to stretch it, but once you start loading up your mix your gonna run into overloading.

NOT all VSTs are that consuming, but in my experience the good ones are.

BTW, Trilian is a killer program. Packed with great stuff, the effects racks are second to none. Best VST I have by far. Give yourself some time to learn that program it will blow your mind.

So now I am interested in Trillion. Tell me more. :)

Oh wait, I'm a bass player. Nevermind...
