have no idea how to install or even get my laptop to reconize my project mix. my laptop is an ACER aspire 5742Z-4492 - intelP6200 - 4gb ddr3 - 500 gb hd.

I AM GING INTO BUSSINESS NEXT MONTH AND IF I NEED TO REPLACE THIS BOARD IT WILL TAKE A OT OUT OF MY BUDGET

PLEAEE HELP ASAP THANK U

Firewire interfaces can be tricky, specially with some particular chip sets.
Even though you have an M-Audio device the following article might help you:

Sorry but it's just not going to happen.

The budget Acer has no firewire ports and no expansion to put a firewire card in.

You can't hook up a firewire device like the project mix to usb ports.

You are going to have to get a laptop with firewire (I suggest you look at companies like adkproaudio that carry audio-specific laptops)
or you are going to have to get a different interface.

You really need to look at the connections of devices before you buy them....
 
i got an FIREWIRE to USB BUT YEAH, NO, IT NEVER WORKED i will put it away until i get my mac, thnks guys
 
Firewire to usb converters are for things like transferring pictures from cameras or
copying files from hard drives. Audio interfaces will not work with them.

It's like trying to shove 16 lanes of traffic through one tollbooth. Ain't gonna work.
