Cubase 5.0 playline not lineing up with notes

Hi all, Sometimes our Cubase playline is behind the sound of the midi notes being played. We will hear the kick drum but the playline is showing a quarter note behind the actual note on the screen.
This happens sometimes, and we can't figure out why.

Anyone have any ideas?

try monkeying with your system pre-roll value. It may be set too low/too high.
