I'm trying to set up a home studio with a gateway computer: pentium 2 400mhz, 128 MB Ram, 6 GB EIDE. I'm thinking of using a Makie
1202 for mixing and Cu-base for recording. I currently have a Mestreo soundcard but I'd like to upgrade to something better. Does any one have any recomedations?
Also I'm wondering what's the best way to record Cd's that will play on everyday sytems, so i can start to circulate my music. What is the most effecient way to do this with what I have? I'm on a pretty moderate budget. My recordings are mostly acustic with vocals and Midi Keyboard sounds. Any info. would be great. Thanks

you already have a good set up computer wise.. one suggestion would be a about 20 gig 7200 rpm hard drive to use strictly for audio..

mackies are good mixers for the money, so that could be a good choice for you..

have you ever used cubase ? if your just starting out cakewalk is easier to learn, and there is also powertracks pro which is an even cheaper solution(its like 50 bucks).. if you havent used these programs yet you should download the demos..

as far as a soundcard goes , if your a one man show the echo darla 24 or the wave/424 would work out well.. they dont cost too much (around 300), and have 2 inputs and 4 outputs.. if thats a little out of your budget , some people swear by the soundblaster live! card..( i think around 100 bucks)..

as far as making your own cd's goes , an internal cd-rw for your computer is definitely the way to go.. you can get a decent 4x4x24 cd-rw for about 200 bucks.. and besides making your own cd's , these machines are great for backing up projects..

as far as playback on everyday systems goes , its the brand of cd-r that you buy that determines what cd players will or will not play back a certain disc.. generally the more expensive the disc the more systems it will play on (go figure, although i get decent results using comp usa brand cd-rs at about 1 dollar each with jewel cases).. the more expensive ones are also more scratch resistant..

i hope this helps..

Is it possible to run Cu-base with my Maestro sound card that came with the PC while I'm learning to use Cu-base?
