I've always noticed my crybaby wah really sucks all the tone out of my sound when its turned off but still plugged in. Lately I've grown quite tired of this, I'm pretty sure that the problem is that it doesn't have true bypass. I don't know exactly what true bypass is, but is there any way I could mod the pedal so it wouldn't effect the sound so much when not in use?

Yes, it's because of the absence of a true bypass. Dunlop should be charged with a crime for stealing people's tone like they do.

Replace your Crybaby with a wah that has true bypass and you'll think you got a new amp.

I'm not an electronics guy, but I'd be willing to wager there are mods you can do to make it true bypass. Or you can just buy a wah with true bypass and sell your Crybaby on Ebay. :D

Well I'm in electronics at school next semester and the teacher said he'll let me work on whatever I want, I'm already planning on building some effects pedals, and I should be able to mod the crybaby if anyone knows some good links to pages about installing a true bypass. I have looked for pages and only found sites that will mod it for you for a price which is not what I want if I can do it myself.

I have an old Thomas Organ Co. Crybaby that was not modded for true bypass

It is an easy project, you need a DPDT switch and some solder & hookup wire.

Here are some links to get your tone back :D

This one is great one to have, explains difft. mods & how wha pedals work

Here is a link to Fulltone which explains how to do the mod as well & a link to the type of switch you need

Good Luck!

if its a T-O Crybaby, especially the "stack of dimes" model it BETTER not be modded !!!!!!!!!!!!

have it turned on all the time and but an A/B box in front of it, where A=input wah and B=input 1st pedal BEHIND the wah ... (basically you turn you wah on by stepping on the a/b box)

dont mess up a legendary (and possibly 30+ yrs. old) pedal.

Yes, it has the stack of dimes inductor..I still have the old switch so I can mod it back if need be for "vintage value". The A/B box is a good idea..but hey I picked it up on fleabay for $50 a year ago, and it works great for me.

It's the cheapest crybaby they make (GCB-95), and its not vintage or anything, I think I got it a year ago so I'm not destroying anything legendary. I guess I'll order a DPDT switch and make it true bypass, might fiddle around with changing parameters and different stuff for fun, I can always just change it back, plus Ill get marks in school for doing this.
