Hello. I'm pretty much still a recording/mixing newbie, but feel like I'm starting to get the hang of things. I've been in numerous bands and recorded in huge studios with more knobs and buttons than I could count, but I never learned anything from it. (I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging, because it's nothing special. Just trying to show where I'm coming from) The only home recording I've done for the past 10 years involves a Tascam 4 track and some really bad music. Several months ago I got an Mbox and a Powerbook and suddenly recording and mixing is not so easy.
I know I've made some progress. I can tell just by listening to my older stuff. But I still feel like I'm missing something important and I'm not sure where to go. Here are a couple of songs I've been playing with lately. The drums are FLStudio sequences, but I do everything else. I know I can't sing so bear with me, I don't have anyone else to work with
.
I'm having some trouble with the guitars especially. They just sound so muddy, even after I play with the EQ's a bit. They have a decent sound for what I can tell but they don't feel like part of the song. Well, nothing really does. I've been micing a small Kustom amp with an Octava condensor mic. I live in an apartment, so I can't crank my guitar. I was thinking of trying out or getting a POD to see if I could get a better sound. Low amp volume just doesn't give the guitars any balls.
Anyways, I'll shut up and get on with the mp3s. I'd really appreciate any criticism if anyone has time to spare. Thanks
Oh, I guess you could classify this as hard rock/alternative, but personally I don't like labels.
