Critique these drums!!

Hey drummers! Anyone interested in listening and critique-ing the drums in this mix down? After I get some feedback I will share my techniques!

By the way for those of you looking for automated drummer, the one I used here was cheap and simple. Any food for thought?

Good work! This is not a genre of music that I listen to frequently, so I may not have the best point of reference.

I thought the tom sounds were very good, but the snare sound seemed a bit hollow, like it needed to "cut" through a little bit more. Nice cymbal sounds. Not sure about the kick...sometimes my computer speakers don't do the lower end justice.

Definitely tight!

Hey thanks for listening Kester!!! Sometimes it is tough to get anyone in here to listen to an extreme metal post. I know it takes a certain breed and a developed taste to really appreciate the talent and skill in these styles of metal.

So I suppose I owe you an explaination as to how I arrived at this drum track. The sequencing of the drum track and creation of the .wav file is SUPER easy with PCDrummer. http://www.pcdrummer.com . Anyone with a little music training should take right off with this product. You have to understand a TINY bit how time signitures and tempo changes work but once you play with PCdrummer for a while you will get it in no time.

The hard part on the other hand, was developing my own samples to impliment into PC drummer. PC drummer allows you to assign your own .wav files to any of its drum descriptions. I won't lie to you. The samples that come with PC drummer are hideous. I wish I could remember where I got the samples I started with. I know they were MIDI files. And they were in archives by make and model of drum sample. I triggered the midi files and recorded them with a simple wave editing program. I then worked about 3 months making those samples fit my genre. If you can find good samples without the work of searching the web, you will save a lot of work. Once you are using good samples and you have a song sequenced. Simply export the track to .wav file and import into your VST software of choice.

I definitely appreciate the amount of talent and effort it takes to pull a song like that off. Is that you multi-tracking everything? In any case, good job!

I've been a drummer all my life and pretty much only play acoustic drums, but I'm moving into doing more PC based recording so I'm interested in learning as much as I can.

Yes I am overdubbing all the instruments over the starting PC drummer .wav file. To be honest this is by far not a choice of mine. I just cannot find a drummer for the life of me for almost 3 years now. Therefore PC drummer is just enough to get me by without truely satisfying my craving for real drums on this project. Not to mention, that has been really my biggest and only complaint with the music... "You need a real drummer". I hear that almost every day. But alas Im stuck with PC Drummer for now. Oh well at least he's never late for rehearsal and is good at keeping his mouth shut! LOL

I HEAR YA, MAN!

I'm also a songwriter/guitarist and it's nearly impossible for me to find a drummer to work with. So I'll just keep overdubbing, and multi-tracking, and overdubbing...until I figure out how to clone myself ....ha, ha...then look out world!

I really admire your efforts. I think your drum tracks sound really good. And I'm happy to listen any time ;-)

Definitely pick up the snare, and I'd recommend a little more bass drum, just for that extra kick in the ass. Toms and cymbals sound awesome!

MAN. . . . ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!!!! THOSE DRUMS KICK ASS. THE CYMBALS & THE TOMS R FREAKING AWESOME. THE SNARE SOUNDS OK. THE BASS DRUMS U SHOULD ADD A LITTLE MORE BASS 2 THAT I CAN HARDLY HEAR THEM AND THEY SOUND HIGH PITCHED BUT ALL 2GETHER THEY SOUND AWESOME. CONGRATULATIONS BRO.
