I'm not sure if this thread would really belong here, but I figured I had an mp3 and this was the best place for that. Basically I'm 17 years old, been playing piano for about 8 of those with classical lessons for the first 4 or so. I study jazz on my own by listening to artist I like, learning what they play and how they play it and writing it down.

For this recording I decided to try improvising a piano solo and a guitar solo with musical lines that were for the most part my own original ideas. I may have accidently thrown in some licks there that belong to others but thats just cause I was getting into it. I want to get some critique from jazz musicians on this forum on my playing on both the solos, the head, and how the group sounds together.

Keys, bass and guitar are all run midi from my Yamaha keyboard into my computer and sounds were produced by garageband. Any and all critique on THE PLAYING is much appreciated. Oh and I know you all hate the song, autumn leaves.

P.S. I know the first solo is long so bear with it cause the second one is short.

You and everybody, no problem ... :D

Ben, you´re a fine player, first impro sounds elegant, some beautifull phrases , good taste using altered on the 7th chords , good perception of "silence" too...

The second solo, making a "cold" analysis of notes, is ok.
The problem is the "guitar" tone : is so unnatural (typical of synth simulation, something like have 6 strings of same caliber) that is hard to imagine a guitarrist playing it.

for 17 you kick ass man if you were my student i would have you doing hannon with a metronome though.... and lose the vibrato on the piano... atleast dial it down a notch or two... also stop trying to imitate other instruments playing piano lines .. if you insist on imitaton ya gotta get into the idea of how that instrument isactually played... consider their technique...
