Just got done recording / mixing my friends band. They're indie / screamo. If any of you are familiar with the band Curl Up And Die (from Vegas) they're vocalist Mike is in this band. They're all friends of mine, but bias aside this band is fucking gnarly. I don't think I could do them justice, but I tried my best. Any comments, suggestions, etc. are greatly appreciated. I'm going to post what I used incase anyone was curious.

Drums- Recorded with Presonus Firepod, imported into Pro Tools.

Kick: AKG D112
Snare: SM57
All Toms: Audix f10
Overheads: R0DE NT5

Guitars- Recorded with Mbox 2.

Left: 5150 Head, Marshall 1960 Lead Cab, SM57 near edge of cone.
Right: Peavey XXX Head, Marshall 1960 Lead Cab, SM57 in the middle of edge and the center.

Bass- Recorded with Mbox 2, AKG D112 (forgot what head / cab he used)

Vocals- Recorded with Mbox 2, SM57 (I like to use this Mic for this type of vocal)

Take care,
Adam.

Indie is a very obtuse term to me. I consider like, Death Cab, Owen, and Appleseed Cast to be "Indie" as much as I do Off Minor, Saetia, or Orchid. It is indeed more screamo, but the "Independant" non-mainstream sound is where I get the term Indie. You don't hear many bands like this. Anyway, back on point, thanks for the comment dude, I really appreciate it. =]

Take care,
Adam.

I like the bass sound so much, I'm gonna use it as the standard for my song lacking a good bass tone that I need to re-record. Not my style of vocals, but the mix sounds good, and the guitars really stand out nice.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it. I love the way the bass came out also. Nothing is better than miking a bass cab. I can never get a good tone going direct. Thanks for taking time to listen to it and what not man, and good luck with the bass. Just record it with a mic (I used the AKG D112) and make the EQ on the head a really brassy sound. =]

I'm not a fan of screamo at all, so I won't comment on the song, but you did a pretty good job with the mix.
However, I think the guitars are just bit too in your face. If you brought them down a dB or two, and brought up the vocals a bit more in front, it would be balanced better.

I second the bass tone. Really nice, even if I could hear the pick hitting the strings.

Thanks man. I really appreciate the feedback. The vocalist kept wanting his vocals lower, the band wanted them louder, so I put them in the middle so everyone was happy, haha. I had them a little higher. I'll take the guitars down a bit for myself, but the band already has the mix, haha. =] Once again, thanks man.

Take care,
Adam.

Not bad. Tom mics seem a bit high or too dry. They just pop out too much. Low end seems a bit mushy. I loved the yells in the breakdown.
