i quite like it performance wise...the kicks boxy and the ride seems high...the vocals and guitar are both too dry...Id try a some compression of the vocals, maybe a little delay (not reverb) and bring them down in volume a little..theyre kinda out there on top

how did you record the guitar?Id also track another layer in there, at the moment it sounds like a bit weak, not full enough

the bass needs to come up more, dont forget its relationship with the kick...its handy to remember that if you give the bass a little EQ boost at say 80hz give the kick a cut at the same frequency..give them room, I cant hear it just now

If this is one of your first mixes id say youve done pretty well...it has a feel of an early mix, not that its bad just a bit loose.. more like a recording of a live session

I recorded everything, I mean everything, with a sm57.. Drums, guitar, vocals and di'd the bass. If that helps.

well damn you didnt do too bad a job of it lol...id maybe invest in another couple of mics for the drums ;)

can you record through your amp and DI the clean signal? at least that way you have the flexibility of try out different soft amp sounds

and what software are you using for the bass amp?

try this http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/923791/BIG 1.01 Release A.rar

you can get some fairly decent bass sounds out of it

Its a bit crude but kinda works for the song. Theres some real weird mud in the lows, the rythem guitar and bass are masking or something in the low mids, I can tell whats the bass and whats the low end of the guitar, try to EQ some separation there. The song itself has a nice melody. Welocome to HR.

Hey MaVN, with a little work I think you could really improve this. I reckon you could

1. Get the timing a little tighter between the acoustic and electric rhythm guitar parts
2. Address the phasing from the double tracked vocals in the chorus - the 'I guess this means goodbye' part. Maybe get hold of some kind of phase inverter?
3. I agree the vocals are generally a little too dry and upfront at the moment
4. The harmonica currently falls in and out of time with the rest of the song's rhythm

You'd see a big difference I think. As kcearl says, enjoyable live session sound though to first mix.

I like your singing voice. Nice tone. The vocal is very dry however and sits on top of the mix rather than blending in. Later on a very weird sounding reverb and/or EQ comes in on the vocal. To me it didn't fit the song's style.

Caught some pitchiness in the vocal at around 2:27 - holding the last syllable of "goodbye"

I also thought the kick was a little tubby and loud. Good sound to the snare.

The guitars are kind of mushy. Not much definition to them.

Overall I'd work on blending the tracks together better. This just sounds like everything was recorded at different times rather than by a cohesive band.
