Nature of Force
Hello fellow Home Recorders!

I've been really interested in recording for about a year and a half now. I've learned a lot over that period of time, especially from reading these forums. Now that I use this knowledge of recording, I tend to find myself analyzing any/all music I hear. It's sort of a subconscious voice. I feel like I have an MP3 Mixing Clinic in my mind. :p Whenever I hear a song I'll try to pick out different instruments and decode how it was recorded, what type of effects were used, and how everything was mixed. I think it helps a lot when I am recording my own songs. I think back to how "the instrument in that song" sounded. It gives a nice reference point to how a song could sound better (or at least closer to a professional sound).

Because you record do you find yourself doing this too?

ohhhhh yeah, I've only been recording for 7 months now, about half of that time doing very little actual recording, and i do that all the time!

Tonight i was sitting in church, and they put a cool effect on the worship leader, i leaned over to my mom and said "is that a long delay or a really tight harmonizer?" she was unable to realize what either of those were, much less which one was being used at the time :). (it was a delay btw, although a really long one that was 50/50 wet/dry)

Yeah, drives me out of my mind now, i can hardly listen to most music anymore because the compression often drives me out of my mind. I am glad i started doing it though, it's a money pit, but a really fun one :).

Have a good night

You do it too?!?!?! Hahaha. Recording is really expensive. I started a thread asking people why they record at home, and that was one of the cons. But if you spend money on the right equipment, that con turns into a pro.

Oh yeah, definitely. I pick apart every mix I hear...analyze what channel's are being used etc...but still get enjoyment out of it. On the flip side, my initial education was in broadcast and film and as a result I nitckpick and get very little enjoyment from anything on television or in movies.
