Howdy Forum :)

Been awhile since I've posted here. I've been real busy musically and I guess that's a good thing. The extra funds definitely come in handy.

I generally try not to do too many cover songs but I was experimenting with trying to get a really convincing jazzy sound out of my Tele- wanted a fatter, hollowbody kind of vibe with a P-90 kind of attack. Well, I don't know if that's what I finally got but I liked the sound on this recording. Please take a listen and give me what you think. There is this annoying hiss that wound up in the recording that i could not figure out where it came from. I actually think it came from my daughter's hair dryer down at the other end of the house (long story but I don't think it detracts from the song too much. The song is called "Creepin'" and has a smooth jazz kind of feel a la Jeff Golub and I'm really proud of this cut. It really came close to a sound I'd like to call my own even if it's a little generic to some. I always get the best advice/response here so critique away. : ) The link is at the bottom. Also.........................

R.I.P. Ray Charles (Robinson) Felt just like I lost my dad all over again when I heard the news. : (

Nice cover, I like the Tele (personally, I'm a Strat man but I dig a good Tele sound for songs like this). From what I could hear of the lead gtr, the tone was good and the vibe was tight.

The hiss does seem to take away from the song quite a bit, so a clean version of this song would be pretty hot. It's especially distracting in the intro fade-in.

Good luck. God bless Mr. Ray Charles. No one else like him...

Thanks for the listen Hoodoo. Somehow, my daughter's hair dryer caused a voltage drop throughout the whole house and the amp picked up the hiss. Happened again today-turned off the dryer and voila'; noise went away. Remedy? Hide the dryer in one of my road cases until I'm finished. lol

I'm still reeling over Ray's passing. Seems that daily, someone who had been heroes of mine are dying and it's hard to find new artist that have the integrity, creativity, and talent that the guys like RC had. Somewhere between now and then, musicians have lost track of talent, development of great chops and traded it for money, image and glitter. You can't "buy" talent and Ray's talent and musical contributions will forever be missed.

Very nice...other than the hiss, it sounds great. The lead gets a bit messy around 1:50, but the overall playing is superb. You certainly know your way around the fretboard. As I listen, the hi-hats are also bugging me. A victim of hair dryer, too?

Groove on,
G

Thats a fat sound for a Tele, good job. The hiss sounds almost like a light rain coming in maybe you can make it work for ya.

Thanks BL. That Duncan Vintage Stack and Line 6 amp combination makes it easy to get close to the sound I was looking for.

Now , I like that light rain idea. I've got a bunch of rain samples on my Ensoniq or better yet an ocean surf patch with seagulls flying over head in the background....................Now you got me thinking about re-mixing :)
