i use a creative extigy as my audio recording input device to my computer. i am having problems (clicks and pops on recorded tracks), but after extensive troubleshooting, i've not isolated the extigy as the problem necessarily.
any thoughts on this device, or what may be wrong?
any better sound cards to use?
any advice on this subject would be well received.
thank you
tom

If you're serious about DAW work, look at something from M-Audio instead. Better ASIO and WDM drivers.

If you aren't on a laptop, you should be thinking PCI rather than USB just because of the poor bandwidth of USB (barely enough for 4 tracks of 24 bit audio).

Don't even think about the Extigy for recording. My neighbour bought one, thinking it would make it possible to record on his laptop.

NO! It was fairly good for playback, but the quality was poor and it had even worse latency than the onboard audiocard...

$229.00 for a Delta 44? $299.00 for a Delta 66?

I use my 6 Fire for my DAW and it works flawlessly.

Why buy the additional inputs and outputs if you're not using them?

He had been using the Extigy up to this point. I figure the next logical step to be able to use the midi ins/outs - optical and coaxial ins/outs - Line level ins/outs as well as a headphone and mic. jack with out having to buy additional components, is to go with the Terratec.

What is your argument against it?

Gamers will also be amazed when seeing the range of compatibility. Fast DirectSound, EAX, A3D, Sensaura 3D or MacroFX are just a few of the favourite standards supported. The seamless connectivity with DVD players, AC3- and DTS reproduction via the digital interface, as well as the full support of current Windows operating systems from 98SE to XP with WDM drivers, is also a big advantage. For an easy start, the package includes various applications from DVD player to audio editors and virtual sound studio; it offers everything you can dream of.

If I'm doing DAW work, I'd rather have my money go to better DACs and drivers. I could care less about EAX, A3D, AC3 and DTS support.

Terratec RMAA results

Here's the RMAA results of the Terratec.....
And these are at 16/44. The results are spectacular at 24/96.

I don't see any problems with the DAC's on this test.

The M-Audio line and the Terratec line both use the Envy24 chip. So does Hoontech and ST Audio if I remember correctly.

So once again..... what's your argument against this audio card?

Like I said, it provides connectivity similar, but more advanced than he already has, but also provides a much higher quality level.
Here are the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 results for comparison.

Virtually identical.

U should have got an Audigy Platinum. It has excellent latency and no clicks.

Not at all. I know what I posted and I simply presented an option that clearly you are not familiar with first hand. I like M-Audio products. I have the Oxygen 8 and SP5's. I know what I bought and why I bought it. The Terratec card kicks ass if you know how to set it up. That's all I'm saying.

Being a huge promoter of M-Audio cards yourself, I'm guess I'm not too surprised by your respose though.....

If I hurt your ego, then my apologies.
