Creating drum patterns from scratch -Studio One+EzDrummer

Hello and thanks for checking this post. I've been planning to setup mi little Home Studio for quite some times and now everything seems to be in place... Well, almost.

It'm new -plz show little patience...

I bought Presonus' Audiobox USB and I thought it would come with Cubase LE4 -it came with Stdio One Artist. That's not really a problem as I have to learn everything step by step anyways...

I upgraded the Lite version Ezdrummer to standard and got DFH for Xmas. I can use the existing groves/loops/patters but how do I make one myslef?

I can modify an existing one (based on MIDI) useing the 'pencil' tool but I cant use ot on an empty track. The white bars where one draws the pattern are not visible unless You import a midi...

Can I actually make a pattern from scratch? Toontrack advertises it's product saying 'yes'

I can't start recording guitars without drum track -and the provided groves are yet limited...

but how? Do I need additional plugins? Any suggestions welcome

If you are going to record a guitar without a drum track you're going to have to use the metronome...otherwise its going to be a bit of a nightmare getting it all working together..

You can open up a piano roll and paint in your drumbeat if you want or you can tap it in using a keyboard or pads..Cubase will allow you to keep recording over the beat without erasing it, gradually building it up..

I suggest starting with midi files...say erase everything except the kick and/or snare and building them from that..another good tool is the book "260 Drum machine patterns" by Hal Leonard ...this will give you an idea on how a beat should look for certain genres if you lack that natural rhythm

sorry just re-read...you got studio one instead of cubase...I used the demo of this when it came out in August but I didnt paint any beats into its piano roll...sorry if thats not the case..I would imagine you can but I couldnt say for sure
