Has anyone done this? I've just taken a quite look at the software, and have made my first installation disc with is but haven't yet installed it to see whether it works or not. I went really aggressive stripping out all internet and networking capabilities and pretty much everything else except audio stuff.

If anyone has used this program would you care to share what you stripped out? And how well it worked/didn't work etc.

IMHO: You just don't need to strip down the os anymore.

It's 1995 thinking.

Back then, we HAD to do things like that to get any decent performance out of the sub-1Ghz machines.... you're just making extra work for yourself now.

What I would like to see is a way to reinstall the operating system without having to reactivate it.

What do you mean? I don't think I've activated Windows after installing in a couple of years.

What you can try to do is get a newer install disk. Doesn't matter if it works with your key or not. Get a key that it does work with (and I am NOT suggesting you pirate... I do this with my legitimate/legal copies of XP Pro) and change it using Microsoft's own key changing program after you install. All should be good and you shouldn't have to activate.

As far as nLite goes, I have used it to integrate some hotfixes and different things for installs at work. Pretty fun. I don't remember what they were, though. Maybe RAID drivers. To be honest, I want to do more with it... specifically un-attended installs. "Eventually" I'll get around to it. :) nLite is a great program!
