I am in the process of trying to create a relatively inexpensive home studio for hip-hop oriented music. Can you advise the essential equipment or computer software I would need to get started? Thanks.

This forum tends to be more focused on actual room construction, acoustic treatment and physical installation.
I'd try the computer forum also on this board.
