Create a drum roll on SR-16?

Pretty new user on sr-16 drum machine and need to create a decent drum roll with the snare, any help? Quantizer settings? Step Mode? Sounds mechanical when using step mode. Trying to recreate drum roll in Free's "Alright Now".

the only way to make it sound half way realistic is to use 3 or 4 very similar but not identical snare sounds. The easiest way to do it is to play the drum sounds with a piano keyboard, just like you would play a drum roll by tapping your fingers on a table top. use both hands, like left index finger and right 3 fingers, it will sound smoother. a piano keyboard will give you the full 128 levels of velocity, where the buttons on the machine only give you 8 levels I think. you can also use the same drum sound 3 or 4 times (assign it to 3 or 4 buttons) but you need to detune each of them slightly.

Hard to explain, easier to do once you get the hang of it.....
