I recently purchased a Sony Minidisk recorder and broke it out for my last band practice....we are not really that serious so we don't record are practices very often.I was pretty suprised by the clarity and sound this device captured!I just used the little stereo mic that came up with it...no post recording eq or anything...My guitar is a bit wacked playing wise but we have a lot of fun! Here is the link:
Tales Of Brave Ulyssis

I have also uploaded another song from that night...a cover of Hendrix "Manic Depression"..if you wanna check it out, follow the link to my music page.

Yeah man, sounds pretty good and clear. :) How many mics? One? sounds good

Thanks man...yeah, just one mic...its a sony stereo mic thats kinda shaped like a "T"....

Vari Good, you even got that retro recording sound going for you.

Cool sounds man....nice guitar tone...it's pretty much perfect. The voice sounds pretty cool to me also. I'd love to see you dudes play.... :D

Fishmed_Returns - Thanks man....as hard as I try, I can't help but sound retro :o

Dogman - Glad you dug it...All three of us have recently gone thru some heavy job changes, babies, and building houses...so we are just now getting back to jamming once a week and are getting ready to play some big outdoor pig roast party thang which should be cool.We are a 3 piece ...the bass player does the lead vox, and the drummer and I do backup screeching at times....Thanks for checking it out!

Yeah man, that totally rocked! It's an excellent example of live-to-stereo recording!

I'd love to hear the same live set recorded live-to-4 (tracks) on that Sony MD!

Rock on dude!

;)

Thanks for the listen...yeah , I'm real happy with the Mini disk being a easy way to record live...I actually bought it to record Some Gov't Mule /Allman Brothers shows and other bands that allow taping.

Oh yeah, I get it!

It's a small handheld stereo MD recorder! Cool! Live-to-stereo is cool!

yup , just a little square thing . The Mic has a clip on it which I could probaly clipon the brim of a hat at a show to record....or a may get one of those tall stands I always see tapers using at shows that allow it...

Yeah,...

At first, I thought you were talking about an MDM4X 4-tracker.

Ah, anyway,... live-to-stereo recording is cool. I've done a lot of it.;)

Your recording is really nice. The only nit-pick I'd have would be too much reverb on the vocal,... or was that just the room acoustics??

Anyway, your version of "Tales of Brave Ulysses" is excellent, almost any way you slice it!;)

Thanks ...it was probaly the room adding the verb on the vocals...it is kinda a large basement we are playing in...it has a drop (celing tiles) celing, and finished walls...but its a pretty long room and the mic was about 1/2 way back from us....I think he does have a short slapback delay on the vox as well...thanks again for listening!!!

I like it. I think the singer might want to check the correct lyric for first few lines.

Did you know: the first recorded use of wah-wah was this song?

tales was released in november 67. when i'm not mistaken there's a wah in hendrix' purple haze, which dates from march of the same year.

variaxman : very cool version, enjoyed it a lot.

MadTiger3000 - Yeah...the lyrics are probably messed up...we had just started jamming together again and this tune was just kinda thrown out there as an easy one to groove to ...He was just singing the from memory.I think were gonna add it to our set so we will get the right lyrics. ;) .
Interesting 'bout the wah...I really can't think of another earlier song that used one. Thanks alot for the listen and post!

faderbug - Thanks man...glad you like it.Not sure 'bout Purple Haze tho...I think he used some kinda primitive octave/fuzz pedal for that effect but I could be wrong,

Sweet sounds all around man, very impressive.
Love the wah, you know I'm addicted :D Out of curiosity, while I was listening I looked up the wah pedal in the encyclopedia:.
"The first recorded use of a wah-wah was by Chet Atkins, who used a wah-wah that he had built himself on the 1961 recording "Boo Boo Stick Beat"
from this article... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wah_wah_pedal

ANyway, great recording, really nailed the cream vibe there with the drum sound/wah wah and all. Hendrix cover rocked too, excellent playing

Hey Snake...thanks for checking out the tune man!Would have never guessed that about Chet Atkins and the wah!Interesting article/link!Glad you dug it!

Very nice for a room mic.
Nice retor feel to the song. :) :) :)

I love my MiniDisc. Most of the time I use it for recording with room mics and at concerts.

Thanks man....yeah, I'm really happy with this thing. I also planned on using it for taping concerts...but I think it's gonna be real cool for my bands practice sessions to be able to critique our performances after the fact.
Thanks for checking it out!!

thanks for the info on the wah snakedog, i never realised it existed before hendrix,

i sort of assumed hendrix or his guitar ... gave birth to it?

:D
