i've been quite busy lately, and will be for the next 4 weeks as the database and webapp ive been working on for 2 months goes live. but i needed some time for my ead to just chill out so i came here. hello, and i will probably be back in another month once everything is done and i can start recording again ( how badly i want to).
whats everyone's facination with massively expensive computers for recording. if you pay $2000 for a computer that can record songs through your delta 1010 or a $700 that can record your songs through a 1010, why are you going for the $2000? my project is to build a rackmount computer that i will use solely for recording remotely and in my practice space. budget? well that isnt totally decided, but i think i will stick with the $700. and another $100 for the monitor. to tell you the truth this is how it looks like it will fir together. Dual FCPGA 733 p3s, crucial 512Mb ram, 40Gb ATA100 HD, Adaptec scsi card, 8x yamaha cdrw, 4U rack case, floppy drive, Matrox graphics, 17" monitor. I have that configured for $800 as we speak, so by the time im back in the country i bet you can knock atleast $50 if not more. To tell you the truth, that will also last a hell of a long time in computer terms. and hey spare yourself some money take some time and look for the cheapest parts you can find. best of all ebay it for those not so critical pieces.
