The store I'm working at decided to try Crate again (I have no idea why). We got 4 of these amps in. 3 (of the 4) of them have literally blown up, one right in front of me and 2 (very unfortunately) on a customer (who is now pissed at ME). I told them if anything else Crate ever shows up I'm setting it on fire in the parking lot.

Crate sucks.

So.....I've seen a Vox AC30 blow up and actually heard of it happening before I ever saw it happen. I've also seen vox's that sound and held up great. I even had a bv150 in the studio for about 6 months and it sounded great, not as good as my mesa but good, and it held up really well.

maybe you dont know how to use them?

Yeah..... Maybe he pressed the self destruct button instead of the power button.

That must be it.

Yep must be it, but the point is every company has amps blow. I have a blown Marshall solid state sitting in my studio right now.

If you want to buy an amp with a 75% failure rate in the first few hours of use, feel free. Just don't say I didn't warn you.

My vintage AC30 has smoked and stopped working, but you expect that kind of thing from a 40+ year old piece of electronic gear. Not from stuff new out of the box.

I'll hold my tongue about the rest of this.

Blue Voodoo rocks my world

You guys are nuts. Either that, or you're doing something wrong. My BV 150H is the best amp I've ever played, period. I was really missing my hot rodded 1977 Marshall JMP (lost to pawnshop), until I bought this baby. Channel 2 sounds so much like a plexi Marshall it isn't funny. Channel 1 is clean as a fresh-changed baby, and channel 3 has all the grind you could ever want. I do like the speaker damping feature (eek, ugh). It really lets you punch hard with less volume, great for rehearsals and jams. You can drive up to four 8-ohm cabinets, too. What's not to like? I have never had anything but joy from my BV.

H2H, did you actually have a cabinet hooked up to it?? 'cause that would be a good way to not blow it up.

hard2hear ,wow no wonder your name is hard2hear ! sounds like they need someone else too test the crate amps. Or are you crancking the amp through the wrong ohmage?

or do you even use a cabinet? cause their good amps. hope you get it right

I have an old Crate fxt100, 4/10 cab that I love...my next amp will be a crate, i've had this one for 5 years.

theyre really that bad? my bfx50 bass amp from like 02 still works...well it would if i would fix the input (some solder points loose and im too lazy to go futsin around on those circuit boards.) and my crate gfx212 2x12 guitar amps still running strong and its about 8 years old.and she's been on a few band practices with me back in the day, and i BLASTED that thing at like 8-9...maybe the new ones suck more?

I've been playing lots of shows with a BV120h for almost a year now and it's done nothing but kick ass. I really dig it.

Although this was 2 years ago, I'll give you a follow up for you retard newbs.

First off, my amp collection and knowledge is vast. I have everything from vintage Vox and Fender, a roadhorse Marshall, to high end Dividedby13. Don't kid yourself about Crate being anywhere in that league.

Secondly, when those amps went to my repair department at the time, they found faulty tube sockets in every one. It was a manufacturing flaw that had to be corrected by the repair shop.

Who resurrected this thread?? WHat's the /13 amp really like?

Okay, I submit before your awesome dominant knowledge, H2H. I can totally believe the fact of a manufacturing flaw w/regards to tube sockets. Not trying to dis you, or your experience. Any manufacturer could encounter such an issue, especially a low-rent mfg like Crate. The early lines probably sucked, I have no experience with them.

I'm not trying to conflate Crate with high-end boutique amps like /13. All I know is, my BV150 has never given me one moment of operational trouble, but it has given me much tonal joy in the time I've owned it, well over a year now. It may be an exception, I dunno. What I do know is, I love that damn box.

Thanks for the second, Sloan. Peace out y'all.

Oh, and sorry to flog a 2 year old, I never noticed the dates. My bad.
