Crappy sound with my bass. Why?

Hello to all,

I cannot get any optimal sound from my bass when I connect it to the system (mixer Phonic, very simple, Sound Card Audiophile 2492 and Cubase vst 5). The sound I get is metallic, low and without deepness.

To amplify the signal, I pluged the bass on my Multiefect Digitech RP7 guitar pedal (on bypass), but the sound is still poor.

I tried to overcome the nasty effect by equalizing it on Cubase, but I have no experience yet to do it right, in case it could be done through software.

Any ideas? Is there any specific device which takes care of giving consistency to basses?. Is it possible to do this via software?. How do you connect your bass in your system?

You can mic the bass but you'll probably get better results if you go either line level out of your bass amp into your mixer or directly into the soundcard. You can also go from your bass into a DI box but I'd use one for a bass not a guitar.

I can never understand why people have bother with recording Bass guitars as i found it the easiest to get good results with, although i worried more about getting a good sound from my bass more than anything else,i just plugged the bass guitar straight into my sw1000xg soundcard( cheapest bass guitar possible incidentally),and it sounds really punchy and powerful,i love it,its been the easiest instrument i've ever recorded for some reason,i will send you a small sample of my bass sound if you want just to show my results and ive only been playing bass guitar for a few weeks,i know this probably wont help you but its just to show its very possible to get a good sound,stick with it!
