Hi,

It's about time for me to bolster my mic cabinet . . . and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on crappy mics. You see, I just really want my productions to sound heinous . . . offensive . . . contemptible.

The worse the better.

Oh, and it has to be at least a couple grand. I want a really good crappy mic. Please, help me find a really crappy mic that will break the bank ! ! !

Hey, stick with what you already have. I have heard some of your work you posted and it is pretty heinous . . . offensive and contemptible. Spending more money won't help you.... perhaps we can suggest a good engineering school :)

Isn't this the sort of thing that goes down better at Fletcher's forum?

I thought Home Rec was for deep soul searching on which Chinese mic sounds like a good $2,000 mic. :D

Well, this is a Fletcher sort of thread...

Ouch... three in a row. :D

No offense meant to Chessrock or to Alan. I think Alan was being facetious as I was as well.

I'm sure the answer would be the Squalid Tube.

And, the TB1 would fit the bill as well. If you got the Squalid Tube and the TB1, then you could wreck some havoc. I'd add the original Rode NT1 to the list but we have found it can double as a good door stop. :D

I suggest two tin cans and a long gold wire. :D

I might let this one go for 2 grand, but I could be talked up to $2500 if you're really serious about it. I'll give you a moneyback guarantee of a really crappy recording.

That's nice to know. I'm not normally one to give away my secrets, but I really owe it all to my PMI Audio gear. They make crappy stuff available even to the most modest of budgets. Thanks to their fine line of products, I guess a guy like me doesn't have to spend $2K to get crappy sound after all!

Dilemna solved.

damn that's cold.

why you so unhappy, chess? is it because you wasted loadsa money on crap when you were a kid?

Actually, I was, but to be able to get under Chessrocks skin was more than I could bear.....

Wow rock...I thought my comment was funny as shit. I did listen to those mixes you posted. You don't need PMI to help you sound bad. Too bad there was not an engineer around who knew what he was doing with those Marshalls to engineer for you. Can you feel the love?

I think all of a sudden the humor left you on my reply when the shit comes back on you. Let me see, how did you put it on another post... Oh yeah!

It's a tough world out there. Deal with it, because you're going to be faced with much bigger assholes than me on a daily basis. Some more words of wisdom for ya, there, Aus.

So here are a few more words of wisdom for you. As you said to me, I now offer you back some "Tough Love", so deal with it. Follow what you post on this BBS, and hopefully you will have more success in your writting than you did at your engineering.....:p :p

Man-o-man...they musta really served some stiff stiff drinks there at the ole NaMM thing...Looks like Alan might still be feelin the PoweR.

If you follow his web link, you might be amazed to find out he has not a single piece of PMI gear listed on his website. In fact, most of his stuff looks to be good solid gear. That might lead one to think the fault lies with the chef and not the ingredients.

Just something to think about...

Hey Alan . . . I walked right in to your first jab, then you walked right in to mine. Hell, I thought we were even. Now you're spouting some crap about Marshalls or something. I didn't even read the whole post.

Why are you back trolling around here anyway? Don't you have people to sue or something? :D Alright, what's the new product? You never come around here untill you have a new product to pimp.

Chess' stuff sounds fairly standard compared to other indie recording studios (i.e. most of the cats in TapeOp). The problems usually more lie with the talent -- particularly on the vocal end of things. His tracking skills appear better than his mix skills but the mix skills seem fairly good overall compared to the indie market.

All this sniping reminds me of some tapes that the Nashville guys pass around for shit and giggles of wannabes who come to town to record demos and hire out great rooms with some of the best players on the planet. They sound horrible. The songs are uninspiring. The talent, while the best on the planet, sounds like shit. And, the vocal just sucks. George Massenburg would sound like R. Stevie Moore any day of the week dealing with that garbage.

I think Chess' stuff sounds better on the engineering side than most of the crap I'm asked to review. I would like to hear something done with a quality vocalist. I've been meaning to ask Keith for something but I've been busy.

If you guys want to hear some indie stuff that's on a very high level then go listen go www.rememberfull.com You may not like it unless you like extreme progressive rock. The mp3s of their "Part of Religion" EP are gold.

What was the point of this thread anyways...................to boost an already considerable post count which in turn boosts an already considerable ego?

Meanwhile, Hyatt's initial reply was one of the most genuinely funny posts that have been seen in these forums and definitely one of the smartest things I have seen him say, but as is usual Chessrock has to return to the gutter in an attempt to stay on top of the "discussion".........such a pity when if we believe him, he has so much to offer.

Yeah, I thought the thead was funny until Chess took his funny thread seriously.
