Check it out. It's a vintage Kustom 100-watt amp, with black tuck and roll naugahyde.

When I was a teenager I lusted over these things big time. Seems like a lot of big bands and the really cool local players had 'em.

(Funny, I can look at it now and not even get a twinge, except nostalgia. :D)

Funny. The more I look at that half-stack, the more I'm inclined to think that I actually owned a Kustom head at some point in the distant past.

If so, it must not have been too memorable. Or maybe there's a reason I'm repressing the memory. :D

I remember those. Ultimately, IMHO, they looked way better than they sounded though.:D

I had one of the bass amps for a while, I got it because a wire had come loose from the circuit board--15 minutes fixed that. It was a clean amp, which meant I hooked the line out from my Fender and had a nice slave amp. Plus, without the reverb and tremolo, there was no danger of sounding like CCR. :D

Built like tanks, though. I have a friend who had one of their bass amps, the one with 3 15's. He was playing a gig on a 5 foot stage over concrete, and his amp was on the edge of the stage, powered up. He bent over to pick up his bass and bumped his amp with his butt, and knocked it over. The head went off the stage onto the floor and bounced a couple of times (it fell nearly 10 feet onto concrete). A couple of us went over to it and handed it to him, thinking it was dead meat, but he plugged it back in and it worked fine. The only damage it sustained was that the lamp filament broke when it hit the floor. Try that with a tube amp. ;^)

the bass amps were ok.
My first big amp was a Kustom with 2 3-15 cabs. It was huge and awesome looking and compared favorably with a friends' Acoustic 360.

The guitar amps though ...... I have a friend who currently has two of them .... both in blue ...... they suck ass ............ and not in a good way.

Yep, you've got that right.

AWESOME! I had one with the 3 driver cab and a 200 watt head. Looked just like that one, only taller. 200 screaming watts, of which, about 60 were usable.:D
Biggest case of amp overkill I've ever seen....it was my first keyboard amp.:p

I kept the head for about 10 years after I sold the cab. It doubled as a monitor amp, door stop, whatever I needed it for. It was bulletproof.

In a Guitar Player interview a while back, John Fogarty said he's the only person he knows that was able to get a decent distortion sound out of a Kustom.

I beg to disagree. I still think nobody has. :D

HAHA.

Yeah, he must not have listened to those old recordings for a while!

True - I rented a few times and they were just okay.... But back then everything was just okay... Lots of hum, buzz shorts, cut outs, smoke, shocks etc etc. Things have improved quite a bit since then :D

There is probably only one of them in existence. It's like the infamous holiday fruitcake that gets passed around from family to family year after year at Christmas time.

:D :D :D

Johnny Carson even had it on his show once!
