Crackling noises while direct monitoring/recording

Recently, whenever I try to record or monitor a live audio track, there are all these loud crackling noises in the signal. When I recorded 2 days ago, nothing like this sort occured. My specs are on my signature...could it be my IRC for the firewire card which is hooked up to the Motu?
 
have you checked the lead , tried a different one , made sure the lead does not pass over or along side any power supply leads ,tried a balanced lead or
made sure there is no dust on a fader or volume pot ?



somtimes it's the simple things we over look.......................



if not..... i've no bloody idea !!!!!!
 
No, it's not the wire. Why? Well because, when I hardware monitor my mic off the MOTU, it sounds fine on my monitors and headphones. So there's definitely something wrong with the transmission in between the MOTU and DAW.
