I am going to have a look at it soon but i just want some direction to know where to start?

A few suggestions-
Go to Radio Shack and get a little plug-in outlet tester. This will tell you if your A/C is wired correctly and grounded.

Make sure none of your mic cables, wall warts, line cables, speaker wires are piled on top of your amp. Amps can make a pretty big EM pulse when you turn them on/off, and that can get into your gear through your cables.

Turn your amp all the way down bfore switching on/off. You should do this anyway.

Sounds like your pots are dirty... a shot of cramolin or de-oxit may work, but the best thing to do is take it to a local tech who will clean or replace them........
