what is this?
Maybe you guys can help me more than the people on the cubase forum...

I have a brand new e-machines computer, it has an AMD Athlon processor which supposedly runs @ 2.4ghz... I have a Tascam FW-1804 interface, and an Emu 1212m soundcard/daughter card installed (the soundcard for the DSP engine which also is supposed to take some of the load off of the cpu when plugins are being used). I am running Cubase Sl 3.0, and when i record, i don't have any other programs running, that i know of. When i have more than 2 or 3 tracks recorded, and i try to add effects, and mix down my songs, the cpu meter in cubase peaks out, and the music cuts in and out. I thought that a fast cpu, and plenty (1gb) of RAM would be enough to get by with, but apparently something is wrong. I have spent hours on the phone with tech support, but nothing works. Any idea what could be the problem? When I do get the songs mixed down, I transfer them to Wavelab, and there are no problems... Any help would be appreciated!!!

im not familiar with cubase but is there a preference with how much of your cpu you can use?

make sure that a lot of plugins aren;t running at the same time.

also i dont know if SL has this feature but in sx3 you can freeze out plugins that aren;t being used currently to give cpu more space.

thats why im going for a 3.4 ghz 64 bit amd processor....it should be able to cope wiht a lot of data and plug ins.

will 1gb ram be enough or should i get 2gb ram?

actually,i figured it out....

thank you for all your consideration, but after 6 months of trial & error, i figured it out... it all had to do with the buffer setting i was running with the FW-1804... I raised the buffer from almost minimum to about half way up the scale, and it quit giving me problems... if only i had read through this extensive list of problematic forums earlier.... it would've saved years of therapy... i hope all of you check your buffer size before posting!

-keep on rocking in the free world!
