Added Dual Rectifier... Update #3

After listening to the guitars I feel they should be a bit more aggressive so I fired up the Dual Rectifier and...

... retracked the intro riff

... layered the DR on top of the 5150II rhythm... with an emphasis on the DR

... more aggressive mix

Update with Dual Rectifier
Update #3 - The End of Heartache

5150II only
Update #2 - The End of Heartache

Please take a listen and let me know...

Thanks in advance...

Dude, listened again, and must say, good playing, and you captured a great tone. Very "ON" for this song. I love it..

Thanks Ed...

I think I prefer the added edge from the Recto.
I think I agree, but all sounded damn good to me. Excellent.

hmmmm.....this is a tough call.
I really dig the 5150 all by itself. I think I prefer that tone for this kind of music. They all sound REALLY good tho. The Cobra and Dual Rec might be the fullest or heaviest sound, it's hard to say. Great job on guitar tone tho!

....man I am really jealous of all the amps you have at your disposal!!!!
 haha

thanks a lot for listening and commenting... :)

when I recorded the 5150, I had just learned the part and my playin' leaves a lot to be desired. I think the DR added bite that's missing in the 5150 alone... but it's solely a preference. I like the DR and Cobra the best...

I understand KSE used a 5150 and a Framus of some sort...

thanks again...

I have never heard a Framus Cobra in person. Do you care to comment on the sound? Comparable in any way to anything else?
Also, did you record these heads with different cabinets as well?

thanks!

I think this review is pretty spot on...

Ch 3 of the Cobra is very Recto-ish and Ch 2 is more 5150-ish

5150 and DR - Mesa 2x12 with V30s

Cobra - Cobra cab (2x12 Stereo mode) and the Mesa 2x12 cab

the mics are a MD421 and e609S

This is sounding really good. I prefer the 5150. I like the slightly lower freq emphasis. Very ballsy.

More versions to go I see... more later.

EDIT: just listened through version 4. Still like ver 2 the most. Just my own taste.

Update #5...

This version is with my 5150-II and Cobra. I decided to try both amps on the Crunch channel and with a lot is Mids... also the Cobra Cab (Greenbacks) was used for both amps... the other versions were basically V30s and the amps were the lead channel

This version is definitely less low mid heavy... but seems smoother...

smokin'!
I think it could stand another layer, like maybe you freelancing all over the top of this rythym bed.

Man, that sounds really good. Probably my favorite version yet. I like the big and clear midrange tone that this version has.
You capture some great guitar tones, you seem to be a bit of a guitar tone freak, and that is a good thing by the way! :D

Do you mind detailing your equipment a little more. Outboard stuff, pre-amps, compression, etc.? Just curious, thanks!

On a side note, I just picked up a brand new 5150 II on closeout at a local music shop for $700. I'm finally gonna work on that tone I've been envious of for so long! :D
