Ahh humma humma humma
Hello all...

I've got a couple of songs at:

http://www.mp3.com/justwilliam

for you to check out and give me some comments on.

Let me know what you think. I will post some more when we get a chance. We are tracking another 12 songs in July.

Thanks,
Velvet Elvis

Great job. Stumble, for some reason, cut off so I only heard half, but sounds like a very well done song. Everybody Knows sounds pretty different. Sounds more like a hit to me, kind of like Blink182 pop/punk stuff. Very solid and welldone. How did you record this?

I checked out "Everybody Knows"

I, as a rule, don't really dig that punk vibe but, this is really good. Harmonies were good and there were some subtle unorthodox chord changes going on that sounded good and added a lot. Very good work, everything was nice and tight. I would say better than Blink.

I'm listening to "Stumble' now. Excellent. I"m curious to know how this was recorded also. THis is a nice tune

Recording

Macle and Ray J...

Thanks for the comments. These are the first two songs off of a project I am working on with my own band, so all of the instruments played are from the 4 members of the band.

We recorded both songs on a Mackie 24x8 onto 3 black face Adats in my home studio.

I used a variety of mics, setups, amps etc which I can get into detail on if you really care to know.

Vocals were cut with an Audix CX111 into a Presonus VXP and direct to tape. I have a newer version of both tunes that was recorded with an AT4033 through the Presonus... a few other mix changes happened as well.

I will post the new versions plus some additional tunes as we continue to track in July.

Thanks,
V.E.

Stumble had a Queensryche kinda sound to it.Sounded pretty pro to me.

beezelbubba...

Thanks for the comment... I never thought of it as Queensryche, but hey... whatever works. Now I'm gonna have to go dig up some of their tunes just to compare and contrast :D

Thanks for taking a listen!

Stumble...

For some reason, maybe my speakers, the HiHat seemed overbearing. It seemed to be way out front, treading on the other instruments; particularly during the intro. Other than that, I thought it was done well.

Everybody Knows...

Not into the punk thing, but it sounds like what I am hearing today from Blink and others...very mainstream. Good vocals.

ajgrossman ...

Thanks for the comments. I will take another listen and see how the hi-hat is interacting with things. I mixed on NS-10's and listened around in various places (car, house etc) to see what things sounded like. It might even be the MP3 encoding that "brightened" things up a little.

Thanks for listening!

Hi,

I am listening to stumble. Man, I loved the drums at the start.

THe mix is good. BUT there are somethings I can't quite put my hand on.

On my first listen, I think the vocals can come up, and that everything needs more air.

Turning up the volume on my end was a real revelation.

I like the mix. Everything is right. I still think that the vocals come up a bit and the guitars can use "ever slightly" more body. Other than that, I think everything is fine where it is. Did you mix at loud volumes?

Nice song ,by the way. I like the drums all around. Very cool ending.

CyanJag...

I don't really mix all that loudly... maybe its an NS-10 thing.

Yeah.. I'm not entirely fond of the guitar tracks simply because my SM-57's were at our drummer's house... so I used my Audix CX-111's on the amps... not bad... but not the best distortion sound I've ever heard.

I'm glad you liked the ending...

There is actually a solo and another guitar part missing from the song (recorded over them... opps... now where did I put that track sheet?)

I'll post a remix when I get a chance...

V.E.
