hey guys, i was just wondering what the difference between balanced and unbalanced cables are and what should you use for what? I was also wondering how an effects loops work with say a preamp like mine, i have a behringer v amp pro2 and i was wondering what the pre dsp and the post dsp line in and outs are for and how they tie in with an effects loop, help appreciated

Balanced cables are 2-conductor cables (ie, they can pass a balanced mono signal, or 2 unbalanced mono signals.)

Unbalanced cables are single conductor - they can only pass an unbalanced mono signal.

Balanced/unbalanced signals have nothing to do with the cable as such, it's the gear at each end that sends/expects balanced or unbalanced signals. What cable to use where depends on what you're connecting. If a unit sends out a balanced signal to another unit that expects to receive a balanced signal, then you need to use a balanced cable.
