crawdad

Dammit, Jim, Shut Up!
This was an ADAT demo of the first song I ever had published. It was done at home. All vocals and acoustic instruments recorded with the AT 4033--the only condenser I had at the time. I wanted to post something a little different, so here goes.

I Don't Write Em Like That Anymore

Thanks for your ears!

Good Lord..What a great song and your voice is one of a kind.I sure hope you are able to make an assload of cash off of your talent soon Crawdad.

It's a shame to hear this kind of talent go unrecognized by the professionals in the music industry.

Excellent writing and singing.Did this ever make onto an album by anyone?

One of the best songs and execution I've heard on this BBS, top to bottom. There's nothing I can add. Good song. Good job.

That was great, the only thing that stuck out to me was loud kick other then that ... turn down the vocal or something so I can complain about something else ;) :D

cheers and crawdad you are truly great asset to this forum

What can I say? Another example of fine writing/recording by one of the best around here. Nothing to hand out besides praise, complements and thank you for posting it. Don't want to gush too much but that's really nice. ;)

Not my style at all.

But this sounds as professional as it gets, good work.

Gee, what a nice sound on that voice with that mic! Good song, too. A touch too much reverb on that zither-sounding instrument, maybe? Pretty smooth, Crawdad.

Hey, if you ever do this one again, you're gonna have to change the lyrics by one word - from 'tape in the stereo' to 'disk in the stereo'. :D

Nice pretty song. I liked it quite a bit. Well written.

I don't if anybody commented on the harmonies yet... Real nice and smooth.

Excellent job.

This belongs on the radio, of course. All your stuff belongs on the radio.
However, in today's market, you may be required to get breast implants.

I've followed your thread in General Discussion concerning the future of the music industry. Things are changing at light speed, maybe for the better, who knows?

But as long as there are writers and performers of your caliber, hope exists.
I hope the PA concept at nowhereradio takes off, it may provide a workable solution to the issues we all face as artists.

Just keep leading the way with material and performance like this, it's truly inspirational and challenging, and provides a well-needed kick in the can for the rest of us...makes us strive for quality. I can think of no higher compliment than to say that your work encourages us to excel and that your sharing of it along with your experience is a gold mine.

The only fault I can find with this piece is that there's no video on CMT for me to gripe about. :D

Mark

p.s. Lt. Bob, I just read your post. Al's stuff does tend to bring out the gush factor. I can't help it, though...it's such a kick in the ass that it deserves a geyser!

Pretty solid writing crawdad. Your vocals are wonderful and the recording presents the song in a fine light.

Thanks for the listen

Peace,
Theron.

Lets put it like this:

If a bunch of songs were stranded on the island, yours wouldnt be voted off.

Really nice song. It sounds good enough for G.A.C

funk on!

Damn.........
My brother, I am by no means a country guy or well versed in that genre........ but my wife is ....uh country guy w/ boobs and stuff that is.....:D I showed this to her when i downloaded it, and she is ready to leave me for you. She wants your address and telephone number. ......damn chicks nowadays.
Really beautiful song and recording. I can see why this was sold, It has EVERYTHING that the popular country songs have......plus you're a local......so that makes you cool too!:D

Bravo man......... as usual, Im very impressed. G

You all sure know how to make a guy feel good, and I thank everybody for giving this a listen. My goal is to try and do something different with each post.

Kramer--nah, nobody did this one. They said it was "too inside" and I kinda know what they mean. Seems like you can't just write a song anymore, its gotta be market analyzed to death! Oh well...

ChuckU--A million thanks for that!

Fed--Had I recorded this today, I would have probably notched the kick down a bit too. For a long time, it was pretty standard to put that kick up in the mix in country mixes.

B. Sabbath--you better! I'm compiling a list, ya know! Kidding, Sam...kidding!

Lynx--thats the ultimate compliment. I don't listen to all the styles presented but I try and listen to the recording quality if its not my style.

Dobro---very good point for this day and age. The song was, however, written in 1987 and there really werent a lot of CD's around then. If I took it to a publisher today, they'd probably echo your suggestions too. Thanks for the listen, bro!

TripleM --Thank you as well for the nice words!

Mkg--if I don't lose some weight, I may not need those breast implants! :D I am gonna check into the PA thing. I haven't had a chance yet. The video for CMT was just too expensive, so maybe I'll get my drunk brother in law to shoot one with his DV camcorder:D Seriously, I appreciate what you say. If I have any positive impact at all around here, it make it all worth it. I learn a lot here too.

Theron--coming from a fine songwriter like you, your comment means a lot to me. I thank you!

CyanJaguar--Thanks man! But I gotta ask--what is G.A.C?

Guernica--first, the important stuff. Is your wife pretty hot? :D Really, tell her thanks for me. Hey, are you a Michigan guy? I appreciate the great comments. My phone number is....I'm joking, man!

G.A,C = channel 31. Great american country where they play the latest country hits and the best oldies

don't listen to much country but this is great crawdad. nothing to complain about here. sounds perfect. becoming more convinced of that mic everytime I hear a recording with it. do you remember the preamp that you used?

by the way, your voice is perfect. man what a gift.

Wow, really great. Has this been mastered? Did they have ADATS in 1987? Maybe you wrote it then, but recorded it later. How are the drums done? Is it a machine? Sometimes the kick seems a little stiff when it does those syncopations. What was the gear, the reverb, etc? Did you play everything?

Really nice song, great vocals, this doesn't seem like a "demo". I've heard the term "too inside", (what does it mean?). Man, those record people are such a drag!

Well... chessrock's hero... you've done it again. The triple-tube exciter signal chain comes thru bigtime!! :D

Wait... did they have triple-tubes back in the 80's

A most excellent production, and from what I can tell -- excellent for the genre. Man, people would pay cash on the barrelhead for this hyah stuff. Just getcher 10-gallon hat, brush popper, and silver-turkey-serving platter belt buckle on and skedaddle down to Nashville!! :) Hopefully, you bin waxin yer mustache already :D Couldn't hear a single thing wrong with the production on the first listen -- not that I didn't try :p

Great stuff; fellow fellas of the clinic -- we's rubbin elbows with a pro!

Ya...I knew I was taking advice from the right man! Please don't leave us behind when you do get drafted by the rest of the world.
Incidently, Lt. Bob had me listen to Life Number 9 the other day. Frankly, I don't know what you're doing here, apart from leading the way...
You're a good man and a great musician.
Thanks for the music!
