Could you use something like this to trigger Drumagog or other software based trigger

Plus, the iDM01 also provides complete MIDI implementation, flexible programming and editing features and velocity-sensitive pad buttons.

Ok, to put it a different way, do you think it would make more sense then a set of $300-$500 "pawn shop" drums for a non drummer recording rough tracks and demos?

Dude, if you wanted to get really low tech, you could trigger drumagog with recordings of you slapping your table and stomping or beating on stuff with a pencil.

Seriously.

Buy a used Drum module like the DM5, something that has a Trigger to MIDI Interface built in.

Then go to E-bay and buy a bunch of used Remo Tunable Practice pads.
You can use a 6" REMO practice pad for the kick drum, use 10" for the snare and "floor " toms, and use the 8" for the rack toms.

Convert them into electric drumpads by installing triggers in them, and make a rack out of PVC pipe and connmectors to mount them to.

Search this form for "REMO pads" or look online for "DIY electric drums".
Those things you are looking at are crap.

Or, you could look on E-bay for a used electric kit, but stay away from simmons pads - they are crap to play on.
