SnakeDog & BB,
I've pulled the bass back a little more & cut some bottom end from the bass drum as I'd already done this to the bass - it was the only earth rumbling bit left. The snare is up with a tweak on its reverb and the ride is up also.
I tried tweaking the guitar solo but it was, essentially, the recorded sound of the guitar overdriven through a pignose. I EQ all over the place & in the end added a chuck of mids & scooped out some upper mids - it sounds different to before at least.
Here's the kink.
BB, I really appreciate the detail of your responses & do attempt what you offer.
Ido1957 - does this stray too far from what you liked?
LINK FIXED I HOPE

Hey rayc - this could be the final mix....listening on my PC speakers.....

I'm still getting lots of bass guitar definition so I'm ok with your changes.

I can hear where the snare is louder - good....

The guitar solo stands out a little more, does it have more reverb too?
Overall this mix is great....

Oh BTW - your link didn't work but I found it Softdance at Soundclick by following the link in your signature.

ido1957 :D :) :D :)

Ido1957,
Thanks for the positivity. I've fixed the link above & in this post. Yeah I added some more reverb on the guitar & did some radical EQing to make it sound diff. It was harder than I anticipated esp as amp & cab sim choices in Pro Audio 9.3 are limited. I can see why so many folk end up with very similar sounds now - preset choices are limited. C'est la guerre!

JPW23,
Try the one here. Thanks for passing on the bad link info.

See, there's still plenty bass left. Trust me, there's good bass amount in there. :)

One track I'm working on was very bass heavy. So ended up rolling off everything below 160Hz. Typically, you would think that bass would probably be ruined but in this case it was better this way.

So I've learned there's no formula.

Anyhoo, back to the mix here, this sounds much much better to me. :) The sax sounds cool. I think if the choice is between this and the old version, I'd say revert the guitar solo to the old version. You're right, this one does sound different after EQ'ing but doesn't sound much like a guitar you'd hear.

Other than that, sounds cool. :) Oh, one idea I may throw around to be kicked by everyone is to maybe add some verb to the sax or just increase the decay a little on the existing verb. :) Just an idea.

The last, the BB remix!

Here it is,
I've added a smidgen more verb with a slightly longer delay to the sax solos & I found another sim for the guitar solo - it's "small prac. amp".

This would be actual version #7 that's been put up on Soundclick & about # 107 on my computer. that's what it's about isn't it, try & see, experiment & discover?

Good suggestions by Big Bubba - I can notice the differences. Those were two good changes. The sax now has a more smooth and "spacey" feel to it, and rides nicely in the mix now. The guitar is also better - nice little edge to it. Sounds like less reverb, bringing it closer to the rest of the instruments - more the same room.

Is this the final mix then? It's a good one!

:) :D :) :D :)

Hey dude, this mix sounds a lot nicer than the ones before. Primarily 'coz of the sax being more visible and the lead being back to it's previous tone. :)

I keep seeing last bb mix and makes me laugh. Sorry to run you around good man. Just throwing out ideas. :)

This mix sounds good. The vox and the sax shine thru much better now and I think that's the main point of your song. Trust me the musicianship of the bassline is not lost at all. It's just less in your face. It's still swinging dancing around the beat in the back and the listener can still hear it. :)

OK, that'll be it.

Ido, thanks. I think I can close this one now & move on.
Terry likes the 2nd last one & I've not listened with enouh distance to decide. I've kept the last three mix setting & wave of the result so I'll take some time to clear my head & then listen back.
BB - no run around mate. I asked for comments so I could try things & get informed by perspectives. I called em BB's because you were the one who offered the suggestions - made sense esp. in terms of storing them for play back. Thanks for your input - it's been fun & the results were worth the effort.
