I'm going to be doing voiceover work and need some inexpensive quality equipment, this is what I'm looking at.

Power Mac G4 Dual 1.5gh, 512 mb ram
Final Cut Pro 4: SOUNDTRACK
Shure SM58, possibly AKG D790?) $99
ART tube Preamp $50
iMic, USB adaptor

Running M58 to the Preamp to the iMic to the computer.

Am I going in the right direction? Suggestions? Comments?

Do I need the preamp If I've got the iMic?
Do I need the iMic at all?

Help would be greatly appreciated

Your mic and preamp are going to be key -

I'd go with a more "standard" VO mic like an EV RE-20 or a Shure SM-7. Also, a "channel strip" type preamp will go a long way... Behringer and ART make inexpensive models with built-in preamp-EQ-compressor settings.

It's really more of a "must" - It's going to cost you a little more, but you'll thank me later.
