Could anyone mix this for me?

I was tempted untill I realized I don't even know how to get them to go through NOD32 first.

Well, I downloaded it just to have a look.

I'm hardly an expert at this, but since no one else has piped up (yet);

First, tracks would normally be recorded and saved in mono. Saving the individual tracks in stereo just burns up bandwidth when sending them to somebody for mixing.

Second, what was it recorded with? Sounds like a lot of tape hiss. Looking at the spectrum plot, I'd guess cassette tape.

Third, voxmain has a negative dc offset (equipment problems?). Also, step back from the mike, and use a pop shield. Hearing a lot of blowing air noises at the microphone. Eating the mike is normal practice when playing live, not in the studio.

Have you applied any EQ to any of these tracks? They all seem to have a hole at 3KHz.

If nothing more important comes along, might see if I can do a mix for you. Not that I've ever done anybody's but my own till now. Not promising anything now.

Amanda

EDIT: Just solo'd both guitar tracks.
First, get your guitar set up professionally. Lot of fret buzz.
Second, both tracks have what sounds like tape dropout. Time to buy a new cassette maybe?

But on a good note, the guitar playing itself is pretty good overall.

BTW, can't say that I've heard the original of this song.

If any real mixing engineers would like to pass constructive criticism on what I've done, I'd really appreciate it.

Voxmain: normalise & dc offset removal
noise removal
eq: 2K5 +3dB
3K15 +6dB
4K +2dB
compress: -12dB threshold
-40dB noisefloor
3:1 ratio
0.1 sec attack
1 sec decay

split all tracks to mono & delete second track

strings: duplicate & pan 40% L&R +3dB gain
delay right by 20mS

voxback: duplicate & pan 30% L&R
delay right by 20mS

acoustic chords: 30% left +2dB gain dc offset removal

acoustic finger picking: 30% right +2dB gain dc offset removal

vox main: triplicate
1: centre
2: +0.2 semitones delay 25mS left 50% -3dB gain
3: -0.2 semitones delay 25mS right 50% -3dB gain

Mix to stereo wav
strip leading & trailing silence

convert to mp3

Because of the original recording medium, it drops off really quick above 10KHz.

After reading this and not hearing them, i'll try!!! have you got an email address to contact you further?

Here's my attempt at mixing it. As Amanda did I stripped the files to mono ready for mixing. There's a lot of things wrong with the recording of these files. I dunno what you used to record, software, mic, pre-amp but the background noise is pretty bad!

I'm no master mixer or anything anyway, I thought I'd just grab the files for a bit of fun.

Here's my effort!

Firstly thankyou anyone who has spent their time having a go at this. Looking at comments above I notice several things about quality of recording. I do not have much experience in recording techniques and the equipment I am using is pretty poor.

Old Shure mic into Boss Guitar effects processor into pc soundcard using REAPER as recording program. I haven't got a pop filter yet and I didn't even have the mic on a stand when i was recording so that was the problem. I am looking at getting some recording equipment for my birthday which is in 3 weeks.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the mixes yet as I am at school but once again thanks.

Hey, where'd the drums come from? I got ripped off. There was no drums in my download.

Yeah I know.....

:)

Yeah, I added them.

I think he played to a metronome, cause it seamed to be 80 bpm pretty consistently. So I thought hey throw in EZ Drummer, Then i thought well if it has drums then it needs bass (Although i think i might has gotten a few notes off) I didn't want to spend to much time on it, since it was for free.
I actually thought about retracking the guitars and added a few lead runs through the verses. (somthing i definitly would have done on a paid session)

Since everyone is having some fun with this, i thought i'd get in on the action.

The challenge was that I'm on the road on business and am using my work laptop (which runs almost as well as a 1977 chevette) and headphones that i know aren't anywhere close to flat but i don't know them well enough to try to compensate so if this sounds like crap then i apologize.

OK. Quick, quick, quick mix...

Removed DC offset. Did a bit of noise reduction. EQed the vox and guitar a bit. Added just a touch of delayed vox.

Here's how it turned out:

Was tempted to put some drums and bass on it also, but ended up tracking some other stuff until waaay too late last night.

plugging it directly into a PCs soundcard is one of your biggest problems here...I know you are at school but there are ultra cheap audio interfaces out the on fleabay that will improve your recordings immediately....search line 6, m -audio, or tascam...:)

I like Amanda's mix followed closely with Mr Clean.
The others may have drums but the hiss level is too much for me.
