If this is in the wrong place, I appologize.

How much would a pure analog studio cost? Tube amps, tube mics, analog mixers, reel to reels.... etc? I'm imagining a shitload of dinero would have to go into a studio like that....

and a quick Q. What constitutes "analog" and "Solid State"? I know "analog" mixers have circutboards in them and such, would one explain this?

Thanks for your input ;)

Solid state is analog, unless there is an A/D conversion like on a digital effects unit. So you don't need to limit yourself to tubes. I doubt you could find much transistor-free equipment anyway.

Hmmm..Yes you could spend a shotload of money to get a neve a few 2" reel to reels ect...

I think it would be possible to get a studio for much less it just depends on what quality of analoge gear you wanna pay for.

Isn't there a Tascam casette multitracker still available for $99?.... Pure analog there!!! ;)

Well, This is one of those barn burners, where the rich fight the poor and clint eastwood does not understand 1.6 gigawatts.

Now im not saying anyone is wrong by using all Digital, and im not saying anyone is wrong by using Pure Analog.

But i will say this, Both sides of the recording spectrum have much to offer, there is no reason for anyone to denounce Analog or Digital, I have found a GREAT medium By using a 36 channel analog console and recording to an alesis HD24 Digital Adat. then dumping the adat via lightpipe into my PC for editing with nuendo.

What i find is by using both worlds is that you can get that old smooth warm analog sound and still use the ease and diversity of digital editing and mastering.

Seems to me anyone with a fully analog studio is a collector, and anyone with a fully digital studio is cramped for space.
