Im using a behringer mixer (eurorack 1604A). I am ready to impliment a studio effects loop. Please suggest makes and models of effects units (Under $200.00 US) that you all have tried and liked. If possible please describe the pro's and/or con's of your suggestion.
A good cost effective solution is a Clavia Micro Modular requires a PC or a Mac to edit, but has loads of filters and stuff. No delay or Reverb though. Second hand prices are dropping because they just announced a new extremely spiffy model to come out in June, so if you want one get it second hand. Will still set you back $300 though.
The Lexicon MPX100 is also really flexible, but costs $600 I think, but it can also do a lot of stuff, so instead of buying three other things, this one might do it. Excellent reverbs for the price.
Behringer have some cheap digital multi-effects too. The Virtualizer Pro is $160 or so. It does a lot of stuff, none of it particularily good, but it's a perfectly usable start.
I own one, and love it. Reverb is clean, beautiful and noise free. It has that gorgeous shimmering reverb sound that you would hope for from a box. Everything sounds great through it, very professional product for such little $$s.
Problems… not very adjustable through the front panel. It comes with a CD Rom that has a program that allows your PC to configure the efx via MIDI, but I haven’t played with this yet. It is the only way to fine tune the many presets beyond the one ‘adjust’ dial on the face.
In this price range I would bet this is one of the best (if not the best) sounding efx you can buy.
I dont know where regebro got the $600 price for last years model from. Either they marked the prices way up in Paris or he is thinking of the MPX-500.
