I've been wanting to get into home recording for a while now, and decided to do it. I've been scouring these forums for a while, and been looking around, and decided on:

I already have a very capable computer (amd 3700+, gig o ram, 500gb h/d space), and I just wanted to make sure this would all work together. So say I have one mic thats mic'ing my guitar amp, that would plug into the first line in the mixer, then a cable would go from the channel insert to the first channel in the breakoutbox for hte soundcard, which would then be a track in the recording software, correct? So when I'm mic'ing my drums, and have 6-7 mics, each will be able to have their own track, right?

Also, what would be a good rack to get, something to hold 5-6 things (first thing being this breakoutbox of the soundcard)

Thanks!

Welcome aboard, Lumbergh.

The 1010 is a well respected piece.

Lots of folks have bad things to say about Behringer around here, for a variety of reasons. I have, however, heard albums recorded with a larger version of that mixer and they sound good. For the price its a great way to start- especially if you aren't sure how better to spend your money.

You've got the wiring down- what you described is correct. If the mixer has direct outs, I'd use those instead of the inserts but the inserts work.

If you live anywhere near a large city, you might check www.craigslist.org for used racks- I've gotten a couple *really* cheap that way, but I live near San Francisco. Other than that... get what you can afford: a rack is pretty much a rack unless you want to spend a LOT and get a shock mounted one or some such.

Enjoy!
Chris

UNless your little mixer has something you want to add to the guitar why not go straight into the break out box? Use the mixer when you need a bog basic preamp or the inbuilt FX.
The less interference with your signal he better.

I thought about that, but I'd like to mic up my amp, and I'll be mic'ing drums too, so I'm gonna need the mixer for the mic preamps.

And thanks for your help everyone!

BUT doesn't the BOBox have some preamp inputs? It should. These are where you can plug your mic - that's what i meant but didn't, as usual, make clear.
