Hey all,

This is a wee ditty me and a mate wrote and recorded on Acid. A sort of black comedic look at the corporate work environment (the bane of the musicians life!. (note, may be offensive to some people? - if easily offended, don't listen!)

Anyway, we used 1 beat up old 58, DI'd the bass and keys. The Drums we're recorded during a previous session with a 58 and a wierd old square Sony mic we found at second hand shop, and cut up into loops.

Weird. But for the most part interesting to listen to. After "Step 6" it got a bit repetitive. Some funny stuff here and there (ok even after step 6).

Recording-wise... The drums were not well recorded. Sounded like a single mic was used and they sounded very distant.

The acoustic guit sounded a bit distant as well.

Lots of plosives. You need a pop filter. The bass dominates the mix and covers the vocals a bit. But the bass sounds real good.

Some out of tune guits (though I have this idea that it's intentional). Not sure what was going on from 1:12 - 1:28, but what ever instrument that was was out of tune. Again I half think it was on purpose.

The kick is waaay too boomy. Too much low end on the bass guitar. The vocal sounds good but the bass in this mix throws it way off. I don't mind the drums at all, it could work if the mix was more in balance.

Cute tune. The recording is homey but the bass is really hurting it beyond that.

Hee hee...this gets good.

The drums really work for the live feel in the violent scene.

I fear you have a really bass shy monitoring setup.

Please fix it because I like the song and would love to download it.

Cheers...

yeah, I gotta admit my monitoring / recording set up for this one if very unforgiving for bass particularly (well picked). I'm using PC speakers that are only a couple of inches, and the bass is coming through a sub. Definately not good to get a flat response!

The drums were recorded with basically 1 mic (and a little sony of some sort - but that wasnt used much). They were recorded to 4 track and then dumped down to PC and chopped up.

Will have another mix and see how it goes :)

Try filtering the lowest freqs of the bass and kick. Give the kick some mids too.

The areas of overkill are in the 80-150 hz range. I would use a soft knee low cut.
