Copyright with "Performing Arts" or "Sound Recording"?

the pigeon knows the way.
If my band wants to copyright our MATERIAL, and not just necessarily our recording (a 10-song CD), we should go for the Performing Art Works Registration, correct? Just because we copyright the RECORDING itself doesn't mean we're protected from someone stealing our underlying material (which was recorded), right?

So, would this be the way to go?

You want Form SR if you are both the creators of the songs and the performings on the recording.

"Use Form SR for registration of published or unpublished sound recordings, that is, for registration of the particular sounds or recorded performance.

Form SR must also be used if you wish to make one registration for both the sound recording and the underlying work (the musical composition, dramatic, or literary work). You may make a single registration only if the copyright claimant is the same for both the sound recording and the underlying work. In this case, the authorship statement in Space 2 should specify that the claim covers both works."

Ok, I guess I missed that. Thanks!

If your doing the recording yourself, use SR. Usually in labels, they own the SR, and you'll take PA.

I hope you do it online. It's pretty easy and I just did 20 songs for $35.00. It'll cost you more by mail and take ten times as long. I can give you a link if you're interested. PM me.

and if you ever so use any of your songs off your copyright album, by itself, than you still need to copyright that song. I would get both PA & SR copyrights.
