I'm trying to move some VST plugins from the comp I'm typing on(an XP machine)to a Win 98 machine that isn't online and has no ZIP software.I burn the files to CD and it looks OK but the files don't show up on the computer I'm trying to import the files to.Is this because of the difference in OS or is it simply the depth in my ass that my head has gone?......Or both?
BTW,this is freeware stuff, not trying to steal anything!

Do you mean you can't see the files on the CD when you put it in the W98 computer? If so you may need to finalize the CD.

CD now or whatever this HP piece of shit uses takes care of that!I've copied other files along w/the DLL.'s and they show up.It's only the DLL.'s that I can't see!

Change the file extensions, burn them,
Copy them to the new computer and change the extensions back.

I've never tried this mind you.

The file extension... is the type of file...

for instance if the DLL was for Battery...
It would be Battery.dll
Change it to Battery.dl$
Burn the file to the disk...
Put it on the new computer...
Change the file back to Battery.dll

Or use a 3.5" Floppy. :)

If I had half a brain I'd just get some zip software for this computer and import the zip files!I prefer to do things the hard way.

Haha... that would have been my first suggestion...
But I figured you didn't want zip software for some reason.

There's always good ol' Winzip which is a free trial
That for some reason never ends.

This used to be the case... not sure anymore...
I use WinRAR now.

It sounds like you might simply have to set your folder options to show system files.

Bingo! This was my first thought too. Your Win98 machine is probably set to hide System files (as well as file extensions)

You guys beat me to it:P There is no reason that DLL files wouldn't burn while other files in the same session did. Most likely the files are burned on the CD just fine, but windows is set up to protect itself by not showing you them. This can be changed. Just remember, when you are done transfering them, change it back. If you weren't aware that windows did this, then it may be for the best that you don't normally mess with DLL's:) (Not trying to be rude, just trying to help avoid future larger problems:D )

I appreciate your concern!I'll just pop back here for help after I fuck up my computer! :D

Hey beezelbubba it looks like you figured out the problem.

As Disposable told you winzip is free (unless you want to pay for the full version - which you don't need), and not seeing the dlls is option setting on your folder.

If you want to view the system files go
Under folder options which if I remember right has not changed since 98 or maybe it has. Anyway it's under tools-->folder options.

In there you have a view option, and just select the option to view extensions, select to view hidden files & folders, and view system files.

You will now be able to see everything, if not just post here.

Thanx all!It works now and I'm able to damage my computer in new and exciting
ways!
