Hi, I have a truckload of cassetts and albums I want to copy to my computer and burn to cd what will I need to do this please help and thanks

In a nutshell...........

You'll need a turntable and a simple dj mixer (or a component system) for the LP's.

You'll need a cassette deck for the  cassettes.

Connect the OUTS of the cassette deck/mixer/component system to the LINE IN (not the MIC IN) of your computer.

You will also need a program to record in to.

Save the seperate songs as WAV. files, then burn them to cd. ;)

Some good software

I found a piece of software called Singulator on one of the shareware sites. It allows you to play the tape or album and it breaks it into individual cuts. it also reduces noise a little, but not that much. I have used it quite a lot. I love it.

For the albums, I got a RIAA preamp from PAIA in kit form. I'm an electronics engineer and extensive hobbiest so the assembly was very easy. It was necessary for my system because I have an old Dual 1219 with Shure V15 Type III low-impedance magnetic cartridge. If you don't use the preamp, you will get really brash highs. With the proper pre-amp, you will get really true and beautiful recordings.

In all cases, I also run them through the latest copy of WavClean, also a shareware program, before burning them on CD. The default is to set it's slider bar to about 70% but I found about 10-20% best. That level gets rid of a lot of noise without cutting out the high end. On extremely bad recordings or LPs that have about had it, I may go higher but not often.

Try this combination. If you don't like it, don't register them and then you don't have to pay for them. They are cheap even if you do. Including the preamp, I have less than $100 and I have been able to recover my extensive LP collection very nicely.
