One Hit Wonder
There's a new feature in Sonar 2.0 that allows you to open files in "safe mode". What safe mode does is it tells you what plug-ins are being loaded, and asks whether you want to load them or not. This is pretty cool if you have any files that are "misbehaving".

I recall having a couple of files that would tell me that Sonar has "removed reference to real-time effects not present on my system". But it never told you what effect was causing the problem. This feature would've helped.

Anyway, to access it, just hold down the Shift key when you open a file. (Only works in 2.0, I tried it in 1.3.1 and no go.)

Kewl. I'm about to order my upgrade, I was still hoping to get a lil more info from others who have already made the jump. Did you get the XL version? I was kinda looking for a spectral analyzer, I was wondering how good the eq plugin was, it said it also had one with it... also I was wondering about the "drum machine" they said was included... I used to program a lot on roland drum machines... using the grid system...is the cakewalk drum similar.... thanks for any info... and good luck.

Does it work with all plug-ins?

I use my Wave bundle quite a bit, and am curious whether or not it recognizes external plug-ins as well as the effects included with SONAR. That would be a great help in troubleshooting conflicts. I just may have to upgrade afterall. :D

I had problems with plug ins as well....Thanks for the tip...Since I got 2.0 I can't quit playing around with the Slicydrummer plug....For mid drum stuff, this thing rocks.

Cool! These are the kind of posts I look forward to,the ones that unlock the secrets of the software.
Thanks alot!

Yup. The file I loaded had both Waves and Cakewalk plugins - it prompted for both.

I did not get the XL version. I got "burned" with PA9 Deluxe, and learned my lesson there. Now I only buy the basic program.

I assume you are talking about the drum mapper. So far I think it's great. One of the best features of 2.0 (along with the new file management system).

They also "shaded" the grid for all the "black keys" in Piano Roll view. Pretty simple change, but makes it much easier to use. Now you can tell where you are, even if you're working to the far right of the grid (i.e, away from the piano keys).

Me too. Got burned on PA9 and Sonar XL. Not worth the extra money. Just a lot of bullshit hype. They need to give their marketing guy a raise. He's doing a good job.

Sonar XL

Yeah, I wish I hadn't gone for XL with 1.0.... I almost didn't get 2.0 XL. But I think this time they put together a pretty good XL package...FXpansion's Dr-008 and the two Sonic Timeworks plug ins for $90 isn't a bad deal. Of course, many will already have the plug ins they want , in which case it's not so attractive.

I also passed up on xl mainly because I feel the next update will feature some of the components of xl just like revalver was in 2.0.

Well, I think that XL is a solid deal this time around; it's a total package.

I used to get the Delux versions of Calkwalk, but I did not get the XL for Sonar 1. I did go for the XL when I went to Sonar 2. I am hoping the plug-ins are decent.
