Change of POETS

So, I'm a Sports Radio nut... I'm guilty.

Anyway, our local sports radio station in Detroit, has this thing where they play songs by local artists about local sports teams. A lot of rappers send stuff in, and it's usually mediocre at best. Sometimes, a good one will come from a Pistons fan or something...

Anyway, yesterday they played a track from someone who calls himself "Big Daddy Slick" or something like that, and it was about the Detroit Tigers. It was literally, one of the worst songs I'd ever heard. I was so embarrassed for Hip-Hop/Sports fans. So the station asks people to call in and "Slam it or Jam it" so, I lob a call into the station. They put me on air, and I say just that... The song was horrible, and I couldn't believe they had the audacity to play it. They laughed and said, "Ok, so what makes you an authority on why it sucks?" And of course I responded with "I'm a local Hip-Hop artist, and I run and operate a recording studio."

To make this long story shorter... They ask me to stay on hold and then talk to me off the air.

First, they commissioned me to make an anthem track for the Detroit Tigers... First thing I say is, GIMMICK. I'm not really down with that... But they told me... Just be true to who you are as an artist, and do something you would like...

So I did, and it's actually quite dope. :D

Second, after they listened to the music at my website, they asked me to create a new Theme song for their radio show... Mind you, this is the most listened-to sports show in Detroit Sports radio. We're talking hundreds of thousands of listeners... They want me to create a new theme song, and they'll play it everyday at 3:00PM to start the show.

I'm torn... I dunno if this is a genuine opportunity, or something that would kill my credibility as an artist.

Any thoughts?

I'd say its a great opportunity as long as you're a fan of the team and the radioshow and you get some type of props for doin it. You can't beat exposure like that usually. But if you think their gonna steal it or something then hell no.

So I'd say go for it.

i'd say its a opportunity...... how else are you going to get radio play at 3:00pm lol.... mind you it is a sportsradio station.... but still....... as long as its you and you keep your creativity its all good.....

It should be cool Change, just stay true to yourself. Music is universal so it shouldn't hurt your credibility, if anything it's something else you can add to your "press" as an accomplishment. I wouldn't think twice.

First - Hearty congratulations on your success!

Secondly - I hope you asked about getting paid for it.
(I have no idea how much I would charge)

Thirdly - see # 1 above....

Fourth - Go For It!

:) :D :) :D :)

Man I say do it.The name recognition alone will be huge.As long as you make a tight song everything will fall in place. That show gets a lot of listeners. They'll remember that your song wasn't corny and you won't be looked at as a gimmick. And if it was there's no such thing as bad publicity anyway. You not gonna half step so this could be a big break.

Man if you are a creative vibe do it..... You neva no where it could lead ya....

Dang change you movin up dude! Go ahead and grace that mic! You got some good music man i know you come up with something tight for a theme song. Just stay true to your own style and you got it fo sho! Do it for the homerecording crew!

I say do it...but do it on your own terms. I know you won't come out sounding like a puppet being lead by the strings. You do you, you'll do fine.

Just my $2 (since the .02 did well in the stock market)
Fiev.

Yuh go for it man, even if your not getting paid. Your stuff on the site amazes me, im sure others will think alike..

Do it! But make sure you got that cheese head hat when u make that beat :D

No seriously,it can open up new doors.Good or bad,are up to your decisions but without taking steps you cant walk.
One beat wont break you,but the plusses outweigh minuses in this one.

Be wise.

That's great. Go for it... Just remember to get promotion like your name or website. It's great to get you music played, but you also want your name out there... It does add to your portfolio. Record it and save it for your demo reel. :D
